A Short History of the Fragrance Industry Leader

By | Jun 7, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Escada, founded in 1978 in Munich, was the brainchild of gorgeous Swedish model Margaretha Ley, and her partner, Wolfgang Ley. Magaretha was in charge of the creative aspect of the company, while Ley handled the company's finances, marketing, sales and production. Escada soon became a fashion powerhouse, with its creations worn by many famous celebrities during red carpet events.

Escada was named after an Irish racehorse on which Margaretha and Ley had placed a bet on during a trip to Portugal. The thoroughbred won the race, and because of this, they decided to name their company Escada, for luck.

Like several other fashion houses, Escada perfumes began its journey as a company by creating a line of fragrances for men and women, which Escada still remains famous for. One of the first fragrances Escada launched was called the Escada Margaretha Ley. Launched in 1990, the fragrance came in a pretty heart-shaped bottle. The scent itself has a very sensuous, earthy feel; with its floral bouquet of Hyacinth, Coconut, and Italian Bergamot, with notes of Ylang Ylang, Peach, Coconut, Iris and Orange Blossom. It's a very romantic, distinctive scent.

In 1993, Escada launched Escada Pour Homme, the male version of Escada Margaretha Ley. It has an intoxicating woody scent, slightly spicy, with hints of cognac, cinnamon and Italian lemon.

Tinka, the Bosnian songstress, was chosen to be the face of Escada's Crystal and Into The Blue, which were launched in 2006. Into The Blue has a slightly clean and feminine scent, with notes of water fruits, crumpled green leaves and aquatic floral notes.

In 2006, Escada introduced its limited edition scent called Escada Pacific Paradise. This perfume brings to mind the sun-drenched tropical islands of the South Pacific. It's fruity and clean, but not overwhelmingly sweet. It's a great scent to use for a summer night out or a trip to the beach.

Two of Escada's latest creations are Ocean Lounge and Incredible Me, which were launched in 2008. Lydia Hearst was the face for IncredibleMe. The bottle is shaped like the Escada logo, with a pretty frame. The scent has an oriental fragrance, with notes of tiramisu, sandalwood and honeysuckle.

Ocean Lounge, on the other hand, has a nice, fruity scent; with top notes of frozen lychee and strawberry meringue, and middle notes of plum and Anjou pear nectar. This is a great scent for summer.

After thirty glorious years in the fashion and fragrance industry, Escada remains one of the most prominent names and one of the top players in the fashion world. Even though the Escada fragrance line is fairly new in the fragrance industry, it's already considered a perennial favorite among perfume lovers.
