A Song of Ice and Fire

Fantasy in Reality - a must-read-saga!

Hi!

Not so long ago I've read the Song of Ice and Fire (only what has done yet) from G. R. R. Martin, and I fall in love with it. I'm a huge fantasy fan, I read a lot of fantasy books, but I have to say, this is unique. Totally unique. Let's see, why!

In other fantasys there's a good guy (ore more), with supernatural skills (which are stronger than other's), and they go to complete their mission, fight with bad guy(s),  and finally (who thought? :P) they win. Everything is perfect, everybody is happy, and the world have saved again.  Don't get it wrong, I like the Lord of the Rings too, but this is something else.

In the SoIaF there are NO 'good' and 'bad' guys. Yeah, they simply don't exist. What I mean? In this saga you can find only people, with different goals, pasts, and feelings. Every character is unique, and there's no main character.

Another thing: it's absolutely incalculable! In the first few chapters, you take a liking for a characters for his honor, or another positive attributes, then suddenly he dies. Ewww, sometimes I tought I would throw it...:), but then it became just amazing. The action can be very unsettling, and surprising, so sometimes it might be difficult to read it.

If you start reading the first book (the Game of Thrones), you will see, in time the lovely characters and the hateble characters will drastically change in your mind. You can't break off with this reading, trust me.

It's fantasy, and can anybody imagine fantasy without magic, dragons, or other creatures? I don't think. The SoIaF has these too, but not very intently. There are no orcs, or trolls, the real enemys are the people. But don't worry, there are dragons, and other monsters, and horrible scenes, if you like it ;).

It takes place in a medieval kingdom of Westeros. When the time of the Dragon-Kings ends, a never ending war for the Iron Throne, between the lords of the kingdom, has been starting. I don't want to write spoilers, so that must be enough..

The titles of the books (in order): Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings, Storm of Swords, Feast for Crows, Dance with Dragons...and Winds of Winter (but it is not ready yet, coming soon).

In April, 2011, the HBO published a new TV show, called the 'Game of Thrones'.  It was nominated for several awards, including Outstanding Drama Series for the 63 Primetime Emmy Awards and Best TV Series - Drama at the 69th Golden Globe Awards. I think the HBO made excelent job, with the actors, and the vision. It has 10 episodes (only 10? ): ), but the Season 2 is coming in April 2012. Can't wait! :)

So, if you want to read something new, and outstanding, don't wait, the Song of Ice and Fire is waiting for you!
