A study abroad packing list is crucial to make sure your adventure overseas runs smoothly.
The last thing we want is for you to forget something essential before you leave because that may ruin your first day overseas... So I hope you find this list helpful and feel free to leave me a comment.
My intention with this study abroad packing list is to inspire you to keep it simple and travel light.
We both know you can figure out what you need to take with you on your own. However, it's important to compare what you have done with this list because you want to make sure you aren't forgetting anything important.
OK. Are you ready?
First of all, every study abroad packing list needs to include clothes!
Socks and underwear
Jacket, gloves, hat, etc... if you're going somewhere cold!
Shoes! -> running shoes, boots, dress shoes, sandals
Something classy if you go some place nice
A couple of nice pairs of jeans
The second most important thing a study abroad packing list needs to have is toiletries!
Tip: Remember that you can get toiletries once you arrive almost anywhere in the world. So, unless you're going to the Sahara desert, don't worry too much about quantities here.
And that's basically it because the rest you can buy at a pharmacy once you arrive.
The last thing a great study abroad packing list needs to describe are all the extras and miscellaneous things you will probably need to take with you.
This includes but is not limited to:
Some local currency(between $100 and $300)
Sheets for your bed(check if they are provided there first)
Camera(to capture all the great memories you will create)
Chargers for all your gadgets
Voltage!(this part is tricky, you'll probably need special adaptors depending on where you are going)
Towels for the beach and/or bathroom
Glasses and sunglasses(or contact lenses)
Your wallet and/or purse
Don't forget your PASSPORT, PLANE TICKETS, VISA, ETC... so important
Prescription drugs if you need(enough to last you your whole trip and make sure you're allowed)
Ipod or other media player -> this one is great for long flights or long nights
Other important documents
International calling cards
Maps and travel guides
Finally, the last important point I'll share with you in this study abroad packing list is to keep all valuable items with you in your carry-on bags because your luggage might get lost. Also, have so extra clothes in your carry-on bags because you may lose your luggage and have no extra clothes with you!
I'd like to suggest that you print out this study abroad packing list and really make sure you have everything that is listed here. This way, you can rest assured that you are ready for your journey overseas.
Last but not least, if you liked my study abroad packing list, please share it with your friends and anyone else who is going overseas or considering it.
Thank you for reading and bon voyage!
