Benefits of leg muscles to the human body
Types of leg muscles and their effects to the foot
The leg muscles which are referred to as intrinsic muscles cause different movements of the foot. For example, the anterior muscles such as extensor muscles cause a dorsi-flexion movement at the foot. This is facilitated by muscles such as Tibialis anterior and extensor hallucis longus. Peroneus longus and brevis which are peroneals muscles of the leg cause the eversion movement at the foot. Plantar flexion movement of the foot is caused by the superficial muscle -a layer of the posterior muscles. These include the triceps surae muscles. This movement together with inversion movement is also caused by deep muscles such as Tibialis posterior.
Problem which are associated with leg muscles
Some of the problems which are associated with leg muscles include muscle strain. This is a condition which involves tearing of muscles tendons. Tendons are tough materials that attach muscles to the bones. The tendons may stretch or tear during strenuous movement where they become over-stretched or during heavy lifting. The muscles of the legs has continuously suffered from muscle fatigue which are commonly associated with over-activity of the muscles with contribute to deficiency of oxygen in the muscles hence leading to accumulation of toxic lactic acid. Accumulation of lactic acid in the muscles leads to muscle fatigue and this is mostly experienced by athletes. Some of the symptoms of muscle strain include redness at the affected region and pain during rest and movement.
Medical solution to leg muscles associated problems
Depending with extend of leg muscles damage, it is important to seek medical attention immediately one gets the particular symptoms associated with leg muscle damage. When the condition is chronic, the doctor may recommend for muscle x-ray to determine whether the muscle is completely or partially torn. Physical examination is also done to determine the functionality of the leg muscles. Muscle strain and fatigue can also be treated at home. This is by applying ice packs on the surface of a damaged muscle to prevent swelling and to reduce pain. Some of the drugs that are mostly used include the use of anti-inflammatory drugs which include aspirin. These drugs reduce inflammation at the site of damage and ultimately reduce pain of the affected muscles. The use of icepacks to reduce swelling is also being used. Taking a rest is very important in case of muscle damage in order to prevent further damage. Leg muscles are the most important muscles of the body responsible for locomotion of an individual.
