A gazebo in the garden is a good idea, especially since your family loves the outdoors so much. So taking your garden plan into account you could invest in a gazebo which creates an ambience of elegance and adds beauty to your garden.

There are a number of gazebo designs which suit your garden, landscape and budget. Before you decide on the design, ask yourself this question. What will the gazebo be used for. Is it a place for kids to play, or is your personal space for a quiet time or yet again is it the place for entertaining.

Gazebos can be made from a number of materials – metal, wood or vinyl. Of late, teak gazebos have really caught the imagination of people. Teak is a popular choice because it is a hardwood and weathers well. Though it could be expensive, the durability of the wood would make it cost effective.

The location of the gazebo is also something you have to decide on. If you plan to dine there then would you like it closer to the kitchen? On the other hand if you want it to be a place where you can read or relax, it would better to have the gazebo in a more scenic place.

The first thing to remember is that the teak gazebo should match the house and the garden. If the gazebo is an annex of the house, the gazebo should resemble the architecture of the house. If it is a garden gazebo, then it should be the focal point in the garden. Basically, a gazebo could be a free-standing pavilion with posts or it could be structure attached to a garden wall. In most cases, the gazebos have a roof and are open on all sides.

Nowadays, gazebos are designed for your lifestyle. You could go in for a closed roof garden gazebo or a screened patio gazebo which you could use as a sun room. An option which is quite different is to go for a Balinese style gazebo draped with ethnic fabric which is very chic. This gazebo could be made of teak with a thatched roof for the authentic touch.

Another interesting idea, which also creates a Zen-like tranquility, is a Japanese gazebo which resembles an oversized lantern. This gazebo could be made in teak also but make sure that your garden also has some elements from the Japanese garden in it.

Then there is the open roof gazebo or a pergola. This structure will have a trellis work of rafters or beams which crisscross with vines, when fully grown the leaves will provide you with necessary shade. Now there is an interesting option for the health conscious; you could go in for a hot tub gazebo – this could be large tub covered with a wooden trellis or a totally covered roof.

Accessories for the gazebo would include teak serving trolleys, garden lights, planters and loungers. You could also go in for a teak gazebo kit which you could assemble yourself.
