About Acne Treatment
The most common type of acne is called cystic acne. It is most commonly found on the cheeks, forehead, chin and neck although it can be found elsewhere too. Cystic acne falls into the category of acne known as 'Type A'.
Sulfur has long been known for its beneficial properties in the treatment of acne. Historical records document doctors of the 1800's attempting to treat acne by using sulfur to dry out acne and cure it in this way. By the early 1900's, the stalwart of acne treatment, Benzoyl Peroxide had been discovered. Even today Benzoyl Peroxide remains probably the single most popular active ingredient in over the counter acne medications. But even with sulfur and benzoyl peroxide, not everyone will be cured. This demonstrates that there are marked differences in the biology of one person and another. What successfully treats one person's acne may have no effect whatsoever on someone else.
If you suffer from acne, you may well have read about Retin A as a treatment option. Again though, this drug is not a final cure to the condition. It was discovered in the mid 1900's and was found to be effective in acne sufferers. It has been produced under several different trade names including Isoretinoin and Tretinoin. Of these, Isoretinoin is the more popular. These pills are still used by many acne sufferers to this day.
As we've mentioned there is no magic bullet that is guaranteed to cure acne. Dermatologists would agree with this; acne has been plaguing people for centuries and unfortunately this has not completely changed. Despite the development of new drugs and even of cosmetic acne laser treatment, acne has not gone for good! One good way to achieve a positive and lasting result is to combine multiple treatment options simultaneously. Even the most unlikely drugs such as laxatives have been shown to have a positive effect on acne. This is because they help to open up and unblock the pores in your skin. Equally certain drugs and foods can have the opposite effect and so you need to be careful with what you eat and apply to your skin.
Propionibacterium acnes are a more chronic cause of skin inflammation. Tackling these bacteria is important and will gradually cause skin improvement as existing spots age and recede and new outbreaks are prevented.
To find out what works best for you it is a good idea to try each treatment option one at a time. Once you have found some that work, combine them and see if you achieve and even better overall result.
Acne can damage your physical but also your mental health. Take control of you health today so that you can improve yourself image and restore your skin to its flawless smooth state.
