An unhealthy lifestyle can lead to constipation. In a nutshell, constipation is having an irregular movement as stools are difficult to eliminate. Some people even experience sudden pain and bloating. This can ruin your life especially if it is happening frequently. It is not hard to prevent or cure this kind of digestive disorder if you have enough knowledge about its occurrence.

You can have a better understanding about constipation if you know how the large intestine and colon work. The colon is the organ held responsible for absorbing the water from the food that you eat and is turned into waste products or fecal matter. The stool is pushed toward the rectum through muscle contractions. The stool becomes solid before it reaches the rectum because of the water that was absorbed by the colon.

If the process of digestion appears to be normal, you are less likely to have constipation. However, if the colon absorbs larger amount of water than it can hold, its muscle contractions become sluggish. This can cause the stool to move slowly as well and can result to hard and dry stools. Constipation can be caused by low fiber intake, dehydration, serious problems with the colon and rectum, milk and other dairy products, and irritable bowel syndrome.

Eating fibrous foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains can prevent constipation from occurring. It is also helpful if you this kind of foods at least twice a day to regulate your bowel movement. Adults who are frequently suffering from constipation should see to it that they are eating foods that are rich in fiber as the soft texture of fiber can soften dry and hard stools. These are some of the same methods that are used in body cleanse techniques.

Other things that you have to take note of when you are suffering from constipation is drinking eight glasses of water everyday and incorporating exercise into your lifestyle. Do not rely on laxatives as this can be habit forming. Your body will demand higher dosage if it can no longer respond to the usual dosage of laxative you take. Abuse of laxative can have deleterious effects on your body and instead of curing constipation; it can pose a threat to your health.

Constipation can be cured by simply changing your diet and lifestyle. You do not have to head to the drugstore and buy some medication just to alleviate the pain it brings. There are various constipation remedies you can find at home that cost you nothing. All you have to do is be cautious with what you eat and exercise regularly.
