About Opiate and Drug Addiction
Opiate addiction can sneak up on almost anyone due to the availability of prescription medications. But when you combine this addiction to legal drugs with addiction to street drugs it can become very devastating in a hurry. Many people who abuse opiates of course do just that; they abuse whatever they can get their hands on and will combine prescription medications with either alcohol or other street drugs in order to be as medicated as possible.
Now if you happen to be suffering from opiate addiction then you have a couple of options that are available to you. What you choose to do about your problem will unfortunately depend on your financial situation. If you have good insurance or lots of cash then you can probably afford to get better help for your problem. If you have other problems with street drugs such as cocaine addiction then you might want to consider checking into a drug rehab in order to try and get clean from all of the drugs at once. This would differ from other recovery strategies where you might just try to treat opiate withdrawal with certain medications or procedures that would not address the other street drugs.
Based on this idea, if you are using multiple substances then you probably need to get to a drug rehab or treatment center of some sort in order to deal with your problem. There they can provide specialized care in helping you to get through your withdrawal, but they can also provide the most help in terms of follow up care for when you eventually leave treatment. That is when the true test really begins and at that point you are going to have to use the tools you learned about in treatment in order to stay clean and sober on your own.
Unfortunately drug rehab is rather expensive but it is not necessarily much more than the alternatives. For example, you could undergo ultra rapid detox and use that procedure in order to rid your system of drugs in an attempt to get clean, but this usually costs a bit more than an inpatient rehab. Another tactic you might try is drug maintenance or drug therapy, but this can actually be much more costly in the long run, especially if it does not help you actually get clean, but just substitutes one drug for another for a while and then leads you back to using your drug of choice. In this case you would have done much better to spend the money and just check into rehab.
