Plantation shutters are generally designed to be hung on the exterior of your house, but sometimes they are made so that they can be used indoors as well. One reason to go with the indoor variety is so that you do not have to go outside in order to adjust them, you can simply do so from the comfort of your own home. You can think of it as owning a really nice set of mini blinds almost.

Another bonus for having interior plantation shutters is because they are in style and very decorative, so they can really set of a room and add quite a flare of their own to the style of a room. They might even match up with and highlight your fireplace accessories.

If you happen to purchase your own shutters and plan on putting them up yourself, you will realize that there are quite a few variations in what you can purchase, and also a lot of different qualities that you can choose from. Of course there are wood shutters that can be painted. These always look nice when they are brand new and the paint is shiny and fresh on them. Of course after a few years the paint on wooden shutters no longer looks quite as shiny and the wooden surface will become a bit weathered over time. At this point you can either buy new ones or try to take the old ones down, sand them, and then repaint them. This is of course a lot of work, but your plantation shutters will always look great if you put in this effort.

Alternatively, you could buy vinyl shutters instead of wooden ones. This will be the pricier option at first but in the end it could save you money if you do not have to refinish them or buy new ones like you have to do with wood. Because the vinyl wears so well, you will not have to pay to replace it or refinish it for several decades.
