People these days are warming up to the idea of above ground swimming pools. Just in time, considering this summer will likely be one of the hottest on record. Still, in years past, and persisting today, many don't give these pools the same respect as their in-ground cousins, and that's too bad, because their advantages relative to them are definitely attractive depending on your situation.
A normal, in-ground pool is an expensive proposition - you have to search out and select a reliable and affordable swimming pool contractor, which is by no means easy. Next there's the construction work that disrupts your home life for 1-5 months depending on the contractor's work load. Finally there's the cost of it all - an in-ground swimming pool can cost $5000 or more, easily. We all relish the thought of spending our summer afternoons lounging around the pool with our families, relaxing on teak chaise lounge chairs covered in large cushions or outdoor pillows, in between dips in the pool, but when it costs that much most people can't afford it without taking on additional debt, and these days that's not something anyone should be happy to do. There is, however, an alternative! I'm sure you know what it is from the title - an above ground swimming pool.
They mostly come in round and oval shapes, and while you're not going to find olympic sized pools above ground, for home use you should be able to find the right size for your backyard. The principle bonuses to above ground pools are cost and ease of setup/installation. Rather than hiring an expensive and time consuming pool contractor (don't forget the afore-mentioned search for one in the first place), most above ground models can be purchased at a store, delivered or driven home, assembled in an afternoon or weekend, and filled over the next few days. In fact, if one were serious about their backyard swimming, inside of a week you could have a pool in your very own backyard. It seems slightly intimidating when you think about it, and for a regular in-ground pool it's out of the question unless you're willing to pay through the nose (and ear!), but with a slight shift in pool thinking it becomes a much easier problem. Plus, think about this - if you for whatever reason wanted to move your in-ground pool, how would you do it? Whereas with a portable model you get just that - portability. Like the sun in one part of your yard? Move the pool there. All it takes is a quick drain, move the pool, move some cables, reconnect, and re-fill. Swim time again!
This summer is going to be a great one for spending time outdoors with friends and family. If your house doesn't already have a pool, and while you'd like to have one, it's not a feasible investment at the moment, consider an above ground swimming pool. Not a kiddie wading pool, but a legitimate wooden or resin pool. Instead of paying thousands of dollars and months of construction time, for less than $1000 and a week you can enjoy the rest of the summer in aquatic style.
