Abuse Against Women
Whether we want to admit it or not, the fact of the matter is that abuse against women is a fact of life, an issue that has been with us since the beginning of time. In the majority of cultures and lifestyles on the planet, women are considered weaker than men, subservient to men, and even of less worth than men.
The fact is that this is one issue that doesn't discriminate by race, color, creed, income or culture. Abuse against women is and always has been an issue, and even a tradition, the world over. Of course, there are some cultures, such as in the Muslim world, that abuse against women is more tolerated and even encouraged, but that doesn't mean that the abuse doesn't go on elsewhere. In many cases, it just happens behind closed doors rather than in public.
When talking about abuse against women, it is important to bear in mind that abuse doesn't have to be physical and can indeed take on many forms. In addition to physical abuse, mental and emotional abuses are also extremely prevalent. Unfortunately, in the majority of cases, abuse against women comes not from strangers, but from loved ones. Because of this it is often tolerated, accepted and grossly underreported.
If you are a victim of abuse against women, the first thing you need to remember is that it is not your fault – whether the abuse is physical or psychological. And no matter what you do, you do not deserve to be treated as though you are worthless. Next, you need to seek out help from trusted friends or family in order to help you extricate yourself from the situation.
