Acid Reflux - How to live with it

Millions of people today are experiencing acid reflux. This condition knows no age or gender, if it happens, it happens. But you don’t have to suffer from these attacks all the time. There are ways which you can do to eliminate the symptoms and freeing yourself from this condition. All you have to do is do a little research and you are good to go.

Acid reflux happens when the stomach acids flow back up into the esophagus. This happens when there is an increase in the production or the stomach acids or if you ate something that triggered the increase of stomach acid production. It is a fact that stomach is acidic in nature; however, your esophagus is not. That is why you feel a burning sensation rising up into your chest. This symptom is known as heartburn and they usually happen when acid reflux attacks.

If you have acid reflux, living with it can sometimes be hard but here are some tips that you can do in order to avoid these acid reflux from happening.

Exercise – no, you don’t have to go to the gym regularly so that you can exercise. You can start with simple and light exercises that will help your body burn calories faster. Running and brisk walking can help you lose and burn excess fats that may slow down your metabolism.

Eat healthy and balanced diet – if you like fatty or fired foods then this is the time that you need to let go of them. Try eating more vegetables than fast foods. Including fruits in your diet will also help your digestion well. Avoid caffeine intake as well as chocolates, these foods will only trigger your acid production. Spicy foods are also a no-no. Junk foods must also be avoided. You can research online or read about the foods that you can avoid in order to avoid acid reflux from happening.

Lose weight – it is a fact that extra weight adds pressure to the stomach, so if you are overweight and suffering from acid reflux, it’s time that you takes your diet seriously. Losing a few pounds will not hurt and will be helpful in avoiding acid reflux from occurring.

Watch what you eat – it is important that you know what you eat. There are foods that can contribute to your acid reflux while there are also foods that can help lessen your GERD. It is also important that you eat your food right. By chewing it carefully and slowly, you can make sure that your stomach can digest the food that you are eating. Keep in mind that if you are in a hurry to eat, tendencies are, food will not be fully digested and might stay longer in the stomach.

Avoid lying down after heavy meals – this is one of the easiest things that you can do to avoid acid reflux from occurring. You must allow at least 2-3 hours before lying down. This way, some of the stomach contents are now digested. Lying down with a full stomach will only allow acids to go back up into the esophagus.

There are many ways that you can do to avoid acid reflux. These are only a few; you can even consult your doctor about them. You can start trying these simple steps and live an acid reflux free life.
