Acing the Job Interview

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Everything you need to know to prepare yourself to ace a job interview.

1) What are definite no-no's in a job interview?
A negative attitude. Not making eye contact. Talking negatively about a former employer or coworker. Dressing messily. Asking about wages in the first interview. Slouching. Loud makeup, clothes or jewelry. Giving too much information on your personal situation.

2) What special skills do you look for in an applicant?
It depends specifically on the position needing to be filled, but; someone with relevant goals, experience, and education, with the capacity to relay that information in an interview setting.

3) If I have never been to an interview, what should I expect?
For a very first interview, set your aim on making a good impression and representing yourself and your skill set accurately. Expect to be a bit nervous but counteract that feeling by preparing for the interview beforehand. Dress well and be on your best behavior during the interview; be respectful.

4) What questions can I ask at the end of an interview?
A good question to ask at the end of an interview is when the employer is looking to fill the position. Others that are acceptable might be questions about what the working environment is like, or when you can expect to hear back from them regarding the job. It is especially beneficial to your interview success if you can remember the names of the people who have just interviewed you, and thank them personally upon exiting from the interview.

5) What impresses you most during an interview?
What impresses me most during an interview is someone who has a confident pose without coming across as unapproachable or arrogant. It also helps if they are able to gracefully express why they want the job.

6) What do you look for in a resume before you call someone for interview?
A clear and concise resume that illustrates the applicant's skills, work experience, and education would likely secure an interview. I think that it makes a huge difference for a job seeker to tailor each resume to the particular job they're seeking. This means doing your research and reading about the company and the specific job description in order to get an idea of what they want out of their potential hire, and altering your resume (truthfully!) to match that skill set. If you are writing a resume and really want to land an interview, just remember that there must be no typos and don't write your resume on pink paper!

These are common interview questions that people typically wrestle with before they go in for the big meeting. As you can see, there are some common themes here; dress and present yourself well, demonstrate that you are capable and qualified for the job, and be able to eloquently share why you want the job. Remember that the people on the other side of the interviewing table are just that; people. They want to find a person to join the team who will get along with everyone else; relax and exude a calm confidence and you will better your chances of acing the job interview.
