Addicted to Marijuana

By | Jan 29, 2010 | 4 Comments | Rating: -1

One of the mistakes that marijuana users make is that they do not consider marijuana a drug like cocaine, alcohol or nicotine. Because they do not consider it a drug (they like to call it an herb) they do not see a potential for abuse with it and refuse to look at their marijuana use as a problem even when it begins to cause serious consequences in their lives. This is unfortunate, because people who are addicted to marijuana are just like any other drug addict in need of support, treatment and an opportunity to rebuild their lives.

I am addicted to marijuana

If you are a frequent marijuana user, it is important that you take a honest look in the mirror and begin to get serious about your situation. If you are not sure whether you are a marijuana addict or not, you can answer the following questions honestly and decide for yourself. The first question is: Have you suffered legal, financial, personal or health consequences because of your consistent pot use? The second question: Have you tried to quit smoking weed and failed only to end up high once again?

If you have answered yes to both of these questions it is important that you stop asking yourself whether you might be addicted to pot and begin to formulate a plan for how to deal with your marijuana addiction. The fact of the matter is that the average pot smoker has been a user for more than a decade and has already suffered serious consequences as a result of their drug use. Average marijuana abusers make less money than clean and sober individuals, have more health problems and generally live less productive lives.

You don't have to be a pot addict anymore

There are currently more than 100 centers in the United States alone specializing in the treatment of marijuana addiction. These programs have varied success rates but all of them have one thing in common: They save lives. But, even though they can be of dramatic benefit, most marijuana users will never look into getting treatment for their problem. The reasons for this are multiple but many boil down to pride. Most marijuana addicts refuse to believe that they have a problem with the drug and of the few that come to accept this reality most will not seek treatment.

Why marijuana addicts refuse to go to rehab

Marijuana abusers make many excuses that allow them to continue to abuse their drug of choice. These litany of excuses include such lies as "marijuana is not hurting me" and "I can't afford rehab" both of which are myths to say the least. The fact of the matter is that the average marijuana addict spends more than $300 a month procuring their drugs. Additionally, they will spend, on average, several hundred more dollars a year on marijuana products. And, to top it all off, many have paid hundreds if not thousands of dollars in court costs and lawyer fees for criminal problems they have encountered as a result of their drug use. And yet they continue to believe that marijuana is not hurting them.

What most people do not understand is that the top marijuana rehabs and treatment centers universally accept medical insurance. Of course since many marijuana addicts are not able to secure good jobs that provide medical insurance (because of drug testing) this presents a problem. But it is a problem that is easily overcome. There are a large number of entirely no cost drug rehab centers in the United States and Canada that will work with patients without insurance. Furthermore, even if you refuse to attend a government funded rehab or work out an arrangement to attend a for-profit marijuana treatment center for free, you can still attend a marijuana treatment center.

Marijuana Treatment Centers Offer Payment Plans

So, let's say that you truly want to change and better yourself. You want to get help but fear that drug rehab without any insurance is going to be too costly. The fact of the matter is that nearly every legitimate marijuana rehab center will work with you depending upon your financial situation. They will work out a payment plan that is fair and will actually save you money! I hear you wondering how going to rehab can save you money, but think about it for a second. Add up all the money that you spend on marijuana each month, add up the money that you have (and will continue) paid in legal fees and now imagine that you no longer have to pay for any of that. Because, if you quit smoking weed all of those expenses will disappear forever. Plus you will be eligible to get a real job and begin to make a career and future for yourself.

I know it is a lot to think about, but aren't you tired of the same ole, same ole. Are you willing to open your mind and try something new. If you were smart you'd take a few minutes and just check out some of the websites for the top rehabs offering marijuana addiction help and treatment in your area. See how much they cost, read their success stories, get the facts. You can continue being addicted to marijuana living out your life as it is now until you die, or you can take a chance and try to change your life for the better by quitting marijuana smoking. The choice is up to you.

This article makes some drastic assumptions about people who smoke pot. Calling someone stupid is not likely to get them into treatment or have them take a look at their addiction.

Marijuana is addictive in a mental sense. It is still safer than 90% of the other things people are addicted to, such as caffeine, sweets, cigarettes, alkeehol, and fast food. I agree that people take the "marijuana is not addictive" thing a little too far, but it's extremely easy to quit if you just go 1 day without it.

The amount of people who smoke marijuana is baffling. The amount of people who smoke marijuana and still succeed in life is even more amazing. Addiction to marijuana is a minor issue in my opinion. It's the easiest habit to kick and marijuana, more often than not, produces more positive effects than it does negative. Obviously abusing it is bad, as abuse of anything (even water) is not good for you. If you have a vaporizer you don't have much to worry about in terms of negative health effects though.

If marijuana controls your life then this article would be helpful, but generally speaking, marijuana addiction is a non-issue in the majority of users. If you CANT quit smoking marijuana, then it's not the marijuana's fault, it's because you have an addictive personality that you need to learn how to control.

I agree with most of what Travis said except the fact that if you can't quit then you have an addictive personality. If you cannot quit then you are likely a drug addict, even to marijuana. It is never the drug's fault, it is your brain's reaction to the drug. We hate on drugs and have this ridiculous war, but in reality all they do is change brain chemistry. Marijuana addiction does have physical withdrawal signs as well as psychological ones.
