Adding Video to a Website Builds Relationships

By Edited Sep 19, 2016 0 0

Relationships are the key to building a fan base

A key component to gaining trust online is to build a personal relationship to the people you want to do business with. The problem with this is that you can’t talk to every single person who visits your site and no matter how personable your writing style is, or how superb your copywriter is, people don’t always feel a connection through words on a page.

That is why you should seriously consider adding video to your website. This is especially true if you are an entrepreneur. You can have commercially produced videos touting your product or services, but when it comes down to it, you are the face of your business and until people know you they are going to be hesitant about doing business with you.

So, if the key to building relationships is having customers get to know you, the solution is having them see you in a video. This doesn’t have to be some polished piece of work. You don’t have to go out and hire the team that just put Lady Gaga’s latest video together. (Well, you can, but that can get pretty pricey.)

The best thing for you to do is to spend a little bit of money on a video camera and shoot some video. For good results you should consider a high definition camera that has an external microphone plug. The problem with most home video set-ups is that the audio is pretty bad because the microphone is not anywhere close to your mouth.

Solving that by using a wired lapel microphone attached to a video camera is the simple solution. Make the video with a limited introduction to yourself, and then a more detailed explanation of what you can do for your customers. Remember that most people looking at the video don’t care about you at all. They just want to know “what’s in it for me?”

By showing them a bit about what you do and laying your expertise out in simple everyday language you can explain how you can solve their problem. This is what people are looking for online; Solutions to problems that they have. You offer them a solution and show them how you can solve their problem suddenly you have the start of your relationship.

Most home computers come with video editing software. Once you have shot a short video about yourself, and a couple short segments about your offerings it is relatively easy to sit down at your computer and edit those into a short video to insert onto your website and onto video content sites like YouTube. This video will then serve two purposes. First it will allow the people who find your website to get to know you and know what you do, and second, its presence on YouTube will be a source of traffic to your site, thus it is an advertisement that will be out there working for you for free.
Videos provide a basis for relationships online. Nothing can replace a face to face meeting and a personal conversation, but video is the next best thing.
