Adobe Photoshop
Photoshop is by far the most developed graphic editing software available today for graphic professionals and amateurs. With Photoshop one can create, edit, manipulate, alter, and enhance graphics. There have been 11 versions of Photoshop released since its creation in 1988, the most recent to this date being CS4. It has won many awards in the web design, printing and graphics industries.
Photoshop is not an easily learned program, but is very powerful and efficient. Many reference books and tutorials are available online. Photoshop classes are also taught in most universities and colleges.
Versions of Photoshop are available for most computer platforms, including the Mac and PC, but it works best on computers that have plenty of memory. There are also additional tools that can be installed to make Photoshop even more powerful. Adobe has fine-tuned the software so that it is invaluable for professionals working in all graphics fields. It can be used in animations with excellent results.
The best thing about recent versions of Photoshop is that they work together with other editing programs that were based on different technologies. It is compatible with PostScript, PDF and Flash, which can be run at the same time for use in projects involving web, film video, and other mobile devices.
Images that have been manipulated with Photoshop have become common place in magazines, television, and other media. In fact, they have termed manipulated photos as being "photoshopped".
For now there is nothing better for image editing than Adobe Photoshop.
