Advice for Moms Going Back to Work

By | Sep 25, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Are you a first time mom thinking about going back to work? As the day approaches that you have to leave your child at day care or with a babysitter, you may become anxious as to how you will be able to juggle your child and work. But don't fear - it is possible. The key is being organised and using your time efficiently. In this article, I will take you through several tips that can help you organize your life and work.

1. Get Organized

When you are rushing from work to child care to home, you need to have a routine. Otherwise, you will quickly find yourself struggling with chores, playtime with your child and romantic time with your husband. You and your husband need to know exactly what you are doing and when. Who will be cooking dinner? Who will be picking up or dropping off your child? In reality, if your husband is like most husbands, you'll need to organise him. But most partners are reasonable and are very happy to be told what to do in order to help you out.

2. Prepare food ahead of time

If you work long or late hours then a good idea to save time is to cook meals ahead of time and place them in the freezer for when they are needed. You don't need a frozen meal everyday of the week but they can come in handy when you are running late and don't have to prepare something. A good idea is to set down a time every week - say on the weekend - where you cook and freeze a range of meals for the week ahead. You will be surprised at home much you can cook all at once in an hour or two and how much time this can save you during the week.

It is also possible to freeze you lunches for work. You might choose a pasta, curry or even hand and cheese sandwiches. When you take them out of the freezer in the morning they will be frozen but by the time you arrive at work they will have defrosted.

3. Get ready at work or gym

Don't feel that you need to do everything in the morning while at home and as you need to get your child ready for day care. You can eat breakfast, do your makeup and even get changed when you arrive at work. Just spending ten minutes or so before you actually start work. If you attend the gym in the morning you can have a shower there. There are a range of hair curling irons, such as small, travel-size ceramic curling irons, that can fit conveniently in your purse and can be a fantastic way to straighten or curl your hair at the gym or work.
