Speculations span the globe ranging from curiosity to concernexploding earthCredit: http://www.fotosearch.com about the coming Age of Aquarius and all its implications. Many believe the world will end on December 21, 2012. There might ensue: rampant disease, torrential floods, massive earthquakes, appearance of planet X and end-times.

For various reasons, some true and others debatable, many people are anxious and scared. The other camp of believers sees the Aquarian Age as the ascension of collective consciousness.

At present, astrologers say we are in the Age of Pisces. For the person not versed in astrology, it gets a bit difficult to follow at this point. But, a current hypothesis is the Age of Aquarius will instead begin with winter solstice n December 21, 2012, simultaneous with the ending of the Mayan calendar.

There are conflicting theories about what we can expect. The best of the best is that humankind will transition from a fear-based society to a peaceful, loving collective consciousness. Naysayers and doomsday prophets equate December 12, 2012 with end-times.

Whatever happens, people are restless and anticipate some kind of change.

Mayan Calendar

Another piece of the puzzle is that the ancient Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012. Again, it is subject to interpretation whether the Mayans were predicting the world's end or the end of old ways and the beginning of a totally enlightened society.

The Mayans were a super-conscious race and brilliant astronomers. They predicted the December 21, 2012 planetary alignment.

Planetary Alignment

During the December 2012 solstice, the solar system will beplanetary alignmentCredit: http://www.fotosearch.com in perfect alignment. The sun will be positioned at the top, earth in the center and the other planets will line-up. At the bottom, a black hole will be visible in the precise center of the Milky Way.

Here, is where facts end and speculation begins. Nobody can say with certainty what will happen when the sun and the black hole are positioned in a straight line. One premise is that the planets will shift positions, which would create disastrous changes on earth.

Changes on Earth

Many believe destruction of earth in 2012 is eminent, due to a projected polar shift. In the event the polar shift manifests, multitudinous natural disasters would occur. People are referring to events such as super volcano eruptions, mega-tsunamis and monumental earthquakes.

NASA has confirmed that an enormous solar episode will occur during 2012 of such magnitude, it will disrupt the Earth's power grids and telecommunication systems.

Planet X

Planet X is a hot discussion topic. There appears a potential that planet Earth will cycle in close proximity to a planet, which is hidden to human eyes at this time. Planet X a.k.a. Niburu, evidently cycles near Earth one time every 6000 years.

Should this solar event come to pass, Earth would likely experience end-times.

Age of Aquarius

The ending of the 5,000 year Mayan calendar does not portend end-times for Earth. Instead, people will experience an awareness shift into ascended consciousness. In 2012, we are entering the Aquarian Age.

According to Aquarian beliefs, at this level of consciousness humans will become telepathic. The ability to "see" what each other is thinking and feeling would eliminate our current fear-based consciousness. All the people and their co-creations would co-exist in a peaceful, loving society.

Perhaps the lyrics of "Aquarius" from the 1967 rock opera "Hair" contained layers, which are unfolding in 2012. It is rather exhilarating to imagine life on a peaceful planet, where love, trust and understanding are the norm.

Is it possible we'll see, "…the dawning of the Age of Aquarius"?
