Alcohol is a depressant that is consumed by millions of people daily. The alcohol industry makes billions of dollars every year selling beer, wine and hard liquor. The money spent on advertising for alcoholic beverages tops millions of dollars a year. During the Super Bowl, it is impossible not to see advertisements for Budweiser, Miller Light and Genuine Draft beers.

Drinking alcohol can become an addiction that requires treatment to quit. There are millions of people throughout the world that have an addiction to alcohol. These people either receive treatment or continue to drink until their body organs shut down and they eventually die.

There are three stages of drinking that include occasional, moderate and excessive drinking. Occasional drinkers are those that have an occasional drink now and then. Moderate drinkers usually drink once a week or once a month and can stop after a few drinks in most cases. Excessive drinkers have a need for a drink weekly if not every day. These are the people that usually need help for the addiction, however, moderate and occasional drinkers could also need help if they have addiction symptoms.
