Alcohol detox is for you if you consider that you are having problems with alcohol. What is involved in alcohol detox? It is a very controlled way to stop drinking and go through the withdrawal process involved in stopping drinking. First of all, how do you know that you have an alcohol problem? There are a few simple questions that you should ask yourself. Is the rate of your drinking very fast? Do you need alcohol to make you feel good? Do you find yourself drinking alone? Do you consume more alcohol now than before? Have you had lapses in your memory while under the influence of alcohol? Have you ever hidden bottles of alcohol around your home? Is your level of drinking causing concern to your family and friends?

If you have answered yes to more than three or four of these questions then you must think about alcohol detox. Your physician should be contacted at this stage. You have to tell your physician the truth because they are in a position to be able to give you the best support. You must explain everything about your drinking habits. Do not ever attempt to alcohol detox without first consulting a physician.

What are your choices with alcoholism detox? Again you need to ask some questions. How long have you been consuming alcohol? What is your overall fitness level? What kind of alcohol are you consuming and what is your level of consumption? Are you young or are you old? Which are the other drugs that you are using? The methods of detox, whether you attend an alcohol detox center as an outpatient or inpatient, or if there are other forms of alcohol detox available will be determined by these answers. You will also know a lot about if there is the chance that you can do your alcohol detoxification at home. This again can be done on your own, or with the help of a trained nurse or your physician.

If you're going to do your alcohol detox at home then you should set yourself up for a week to 10 days. This means that you need to have enough supplies in your house to feed yourself, to keep yourself warm, and some over-the-counter medications to deal with any of the milder symptoms that you may feel during your alcohol detox. You should also make sure that you have all your emergency phone numbers by the phone, this is just a precaution but you never know when you will need them. Finally you should avoid all contact with your friends, or associates, who have been with you when you were drinking in the past. You should do this at least until you are free from the habit.
