Gaming has become for a bunch of guys ou there a way of life (the so-called hardcore gamers) and for many a captivating way of spending their free time. For many years beeing a gamer meant you had a decent desktop computer back at home, and thus a gaming session would almost always meant you'd have to stay in-doors. Thus you we're imobile and couldn't easily hang out with your friends while playing thse computers games.
These days though, things are a lot different, with the emergence of better and better, smaller and more compact dedicated gaming mobile computers, from the powerful and expensive laptops, to smaller, more compact and easier to transport notebooks or even netbooks.
The Alienware M11X netbook is one of the best gaming mobile computers on the market in terms of portability, but if you think you will get to play all the new games on best performance settings, think again. This netbook offers a decent compromise between portability, price, solid features and and overall good gaming experience. Thus, it is capable of offerring playable framerates for nearly every recent title out there, but only as long as you keep details to medium or even lower sometimes. Of course, you will be able to play older games without a problem on this mini laptop.
Another thing with the Alienware series is that every netbook, notebook or laptop they offer is highly customable, in accordance with your needs and your budget. So if you like to play older or less performance demanding games, like RTSs or some older RPGs, you can chose a lower performance Alienware, and if you like to play the last FPS or games that relies heavily on graphics, you need to invest some more to build a faster Alienware computer.
A decent Alienware M11X netbook will come with a 1.3GHz Intel U7300 processor that can be factory overclocked at 1.73GHz, 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 RAM, a NVIDIA GT 335M graphic card that is switchable with the Intel integrated GPU when you dont need your netbook for games and a decent sized 500 GB hard disk drive.
Apart from this, the Alienware M11X comes with 3xUSB 2.0 ports, a HDMI port, a VGA port, DisplayPort, IEEE1394, card reader (SD, MMC, MS, MS Pro), 2×3.5mm and a phone and mic jack. The optical drive is missing, but this is characteristic to all netbooks, so nothing new here and thanks God for the software disk images emulators.
All these harware is operated by Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS.
What I really like about this netbook is the fact that you can tell it is a gaming machine. The manufacturer didn't forget the backlit keyboard, and the fact that you can switch between the fast stand-alone Nvidia GPU and the modest Intel integrated GPU if you want to play or just browse the web, thus saving a lot of energy and extending battery life. In high energy demanding game mode, the Alienware battery lasts for about 2 and a half hours, while it can be used a lot longer for light everyday tasks.
To sum it up, this netbook is ideal for gamers on a tight schedule, who travel a lot and have a few free hours to enjoy their hobby in a hotel room or during a plane flight. In this class, of small sub 12 inch computers, you won't find anything better for the job than the Alienwre M11X.
