You can spot the difference between the two through the intensity of the black color. It is actually hard to spot it without holding the two side by side. However, try to look closer, the Agate Black Onxy is usually solid black because it is artificially coloured while the natural black onyx has streaks of natural colours.

Price and Quality

Aside from the colour, there isn’t much of a difference between natural black onyx and agate black onyx. They have the same level of durability.  Neither of the two goes through any treatments or enhancement aside from the Agate one being dyed black.

The difference in price is determined by the cut and how it is made rather than the size of the stone. Naturally, you need to inspect it closer and see how smooth the cut is and the overall construction of the ring. As a general guide, a black onyx ring costs more or less $9.00 per carat. The increase as the size goes up isn’t significant.

How To Care for Black Onyx

Women are naturally more particular about caring for their jewelries. Black onyx rings for women may chip or get scratched but it doesn’t do so easily. It would take a pretty hard knock for it be damaged.  To clean it, first get a damp clean cloth. Make sure it’s damp and not wet. It should neither be cold nor hot.  Then, wipe it in circular motion. Make sure the cloth has no sharp portions that could scratch the black onyx ring. When done, get a dry cloth and wipe it. Clean the metal part with the usual metal polishing cloth but take great care not to touch the black onyx. Let it out in the open for several minutes before keeping. Make sure it is completely dry.

That black onyx ring with the two harts that looks like it is interwoven with diamonds down the middle is gorgeous. The gold one is beautiful as well but I really love the platinum look. Also, I had no idea the it meant naughtiness. Neat.
