Allergy Relief Bedding Guide

By | May 3, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

If you suffer from allergies and want to have a healthier sleep, then you should consider getting some allergy relief bedding. Allergy bedding also known as dust mite bedding, is specifically designed to prevent dust mites, pet dander and other allergens from infesting your bed by serving as a physical barrier between where dust mites live and their food source (your dead skin cells).

Allergy relief bedding is one of the most cost-effective ways to suppress allergic symptoms as dust mites and other allergens are some of the common causes for causing allergic reactions. Currently, hypoallergenic stuffing for pillows and washable allergy blankets are among the most popular allergy bedding items. Before the invention of such hypoallergenic products, allergy sufferers often have to sleep without pillows or sleep on pillows encased in plastic. Allergy bedding is ideal for you if you are allergic to dust mites, animal dander and are suffering from asthma attacks.

Very often, animal dander is a major factor in creating the need for allergy relief bedding and other allergy relief products. Hypoallergenic covers for the pet's bed may be a good investment, along with frequent shampooing of the pet. As allergy relief bedding and other allergy relief products are now easily available to obtain, allergy sufferers are way better off now as compared to the past.

So how does allergy relief bedding work?

Such bedding is woven tightly so that the pores between the thread of normal bedding fabrics are too small for dust mites to penetrate. Also it works by cutting off the food supply (your dead skin cells) to the dust mites, thus causing any existing mites to die off rapidly.

Advantages of allergy relief bedding

  • Acts as the first line of defense against allergies. Research studies have shown that allergen levels decreased by more than 70% within a month of placing allergy bedding on the pillows and mattresses.
  • By decreasing one's exposure to allergens, one can sleep more soundly and breathe easier. Moreover, a recent medical study suggests that decreased exposure to allergens can help prevent the development of allergic disease in the first place.

Factors you need to consider before buying allergy bedding

  • Quality. There are namely two questions you need to ask yourself when it comes to evaluating the quality of allergy bedding: 1) How effective does it serve as an allergen barrier? & 2) How comfortable is it to sleep on? For an allergy relief bedding to be effective, the pore size must be less than 10 microns. The best beddings tend to have pore sizes of around 2.8 microns. Next, we need to consider fabric types. There are four types of fabrics; membrane, membrane-free, microfiber and organic, with organic fabrics being the best although their lifespan duration is short.
  • Price. Allergy bedding generally ranges from extremely affordable to expensive for full protection.
  • Warranty. Be sure to always check the product warranty.
  • Care. It is simple to maintain the condition of most allergy relief mattress and pillow covers. Most encasings can be machine washed with warm water or gently tumble dried. Others can simply be cleaned with a wet wash cloth. Just remember to never use bleach.
  • Ease of use. Be sure to enquire about the ease of use of allergy relief bedding as certain beddings can be cumbersome to put on, especially mattress covers. Considering that you will need to take them off for cleaning a few times a year, it is best that you choose something that is easy to use.

While there is not much that can be done to combat outdoor allergies and their respective symptoms, allergy relief bedding can help provide a more comfortable and healthier environment in today's houses. With the advent and growing popularity of the Internet, one can now have the ability to shop for any product and investigate every brand name to make medical choices, and then order a suitable type of allergy relief bedding or any other allergy relief products.
