Some people only visit their basement when a tornado siren goes off. That is a waste of space. A basement can be an escape from the everyday world. It can be an exciting excuse for your over-polished dining room, or a nifty nook for relaxation.
The real beauty of a basement is that you don't have to explain it to anyone. It's a freebie that you can do whatever you want with. So, why not have fun with it?
Lots of people have come up with ideas on remodeling their basement. One of my favorites is turning it into a game room. You'd be surprised how cheap you can get a pinball machine for.
Maybe you feel uncomfortable going to the arcade to play Skee-Ball. You feel like you're too old to go to the arcade, but you want to play the game. What if you had your own machine in your basement game room? It would be paradise.
You could invite your friends over for nostalgic play dates. It wouldn't have to be a party, it'd just be time spent in your basement. Or maybe you already have a game room in your house.
In fact, maybe your whole house feels like one giant game room, and you want a peaceful place. You could turn your basement into a soundless paradise. Remodeling a basement with sound insulation has never been easier.
Imagine walking down your basement steps, closing a door, and then nothing. Imagine how relaxing it would be not to hear anything at all. You could read a book, take a nap, or just have space to think.
On the other hand, maybe you're just dying for a place to create. Every artist needs a studio. Your basement could be your studio. From ceramics to photography to poetry, all art needs space to grow. Validate your artistic tendencies by giving them a place to be realized.
If you're always hungry, buy an extra fridge and turn your basement into a snack room. You can keep all your healthy food in the kitchen, and keep all the deserts in the basement. Give yourself fifteen minutes a day to binge in the basement.
Then there's the opposite extreme: turn the basement into a workout room. Why pay all that money for a gym membership when you could just turn your basement into a gym? All you need is a treadmill, a weight bench, and some weights.
Your neighbors would jump at the invitation to come work out in your basement. All of a sudden you'd have more work out buddies then you'd know what to do with. All thanks to your basement.
Hopefully at least one of these basement remodeling ideas is up your alley. If not, think of what you like to do and try to figure out a way to put it in your basement.
Then, the next time the tornado siren goes off, you'll be running into a basement that you're familiar with. It'll be your home beneath your home, where you're able to do the things you really want to do.
