An Insight to the Origin of Reiki Symbols
In order to understand the meaning behind Reiki symbols, one must understand Reiki. Reiki is the spiritual healing of the energy of life force. Rei is actually a word symbolizing spirit, and Ki is a world symbolic of energy. Reiki was discovered over five thousand years ago, and has only recently been accepted into Western culture as being a valid method of healing.
Reiki secrets have been told to have originated in the prayer language of Sanskrit. As Sanskrit is a language of great symbolism, Reiki is a practice in which symbols are used to define and distribute the healing aspects of its life giving power.
The first of Reiki Symbols is the Power Reiki. In Japanese, it is referred to as the Cho Ku Rei. The picture somewhat resembles an oven range that has three circles, all part of the same coil. Through the center of the circles, drawn from the lowest point of the coil is a line. The line extends up to just over the top of the circle, and goes toward the left in a ninety degree angle. The direct symbolism behind the design is that of a light switch. This is relevant to Reiki healing, because the Reiki Power Symbol is used to increase or – depending on the situation – decrease power. The symbol is used as a catalyst to accelerate the process of healing. The coil is even more comparable to an oven range, as it is used as the means to gauge the level of energy, as well as provide a platform from which to transfer.
The next symbol of Reiki is the Harmony symbol. It is a rough sketch of contrasting lines, suggesting that all things under the sun are as one. The Japanese name for this symbol is Sei Hei Ki. As the name suggests, this symbol is used to instill a sense of protection over the inflicted. Not necessarily protection from the hazards of life, but protection from the weakness to be negatively affected by them.
The connection symbol, referred to in Japanese as Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen, is a tower like figure that contains all the properties of a shape shifter. Multiple levels are indicated in the symbol, as well as a suggestion of the senses. This symbol is used to heal problems that are caused by previous or future lives' unconquered turmoils that have manifested themselves into the current life force.
The fourth symbol of Reiki is that of the Reiki Master. Referred to in Japanese as the Dai Ko Myo, the Master is the delivery tool of enlightenment. The illustration is somewhat of a star that is above a diverse couple. The suggestion behind the drawing is that every body has access to the enlightenment of Reiki.
The last symbol is that of completion, also known as Raku. The Raku is in the form of a lightening bolt, as a symbol of resolution being sent to earth from the heavens. This symbol is represents the final phase of Reiki healing. It is the most powerful of the Reiki symbols in the sense that it completes the metamorphosis that has taken place in the soul.
