Angel Perfume for Men (A*Men)

Angel perfume

has been around for eighteen years and of all Thierry Mugler's perfumes, it's the one most associated with its creator. Even though, like all perfumes, Mugler's creations can be categorized into the typical olfactive families, the taxonomy that really suits them is the one of emotions. Rather than a layer of different notes, Mugler's creations are a cloud of aromas, bringing back childhood memories.

In Angel perfume for women for example, this memory is centered around sugar and jam preserves, and Mugler Collgne (a unisex perfume), legend has it, is the memory of a soap bar, with which the designer's grandmother used to bathe him as a child.
Generally speaking, except for the original Angel perfume, Thierry Mugler's fragrances cannot be found in every perfume shop. This is especially true for A*men, which is sold in selected shops, as an exclusive product rather than one for the masses. The bottle too has its history and importance. It was designed both as a metal refillable case (with a microfiber cloth to clean it) and as a rubber case.

Angel perfume for men is very different from the other traditional masculine fragrances. As a matter of fact, it's easier to do so for perfumes for men. In the world of feminine fragrances there are less restrictions, designers have always been free to experiment, and as a result much of what could be said has been said. In the masculine fragrances world, on the other hand, there are more limits, more non written rules that impose restrictions. Boys, after all, are boys, and fruity, floral and sweet notes are girly stuff and have to be kept to the minimum. This is where Angel perfume for men breaks the rules: the opening notes are very intense and direct, it's almost pure caramel and vanilla.

Let's say upfront that, like the original Angel perfume for women, A*Men is a fragrance that doesn't leave room for shades of grey: either you love it or you hate it. After the first whiff, the nose should overcome the intensity of this olfactive assault and go to the next phase. Or you might not pass it and dump the test paper (you haven't sprayed Angel perfume for men directly on your skin the very first time, have you?). This is what I did more than five years ago, when I first smelt it: I found it unpleasantly shocking. But after getting my nose accustomed to all sorts of fragrances (and also after getting a little bit older), the second encounter ended up differently.

This is a rule of thumb when you try a perfume for the first time and it repels you: don't dismiss it completely, your paths may cross again some time in the future, and you may find you like it. Of course the perfume won't have changed, you will.

Ok, enough rumbling , let's move on to the middle notes. More earthy notes will come out. Like in a garden, with mint and cilantro, or even thyme, rosemary and lavender and a hint of tobacco. Averting your nose for a second and smelling it again will be like resetting you sense of smell: the caramel and the other sweet notes will be again overwhelming. The middle notes add a new layer of coffee and sandalwood, making the preserve-like sweet notes toasted.

The base notes are a bit hard to explain. As I said before, Thierry Mugler's perfumes are a cloud of notes that convey emotions, and you know what they say of emotions...they are hard to explain in words. However, I'll try. The green side of the perfume fluctuates between a earth green and a humid green, like grass after the rain. At the same time, the caramel lasts no longer than a few seconds then lets the earth green take control, but that doesn't last long, because it mixes with roasted coffee beans, and finishes with vanilla. I hope it was clear enough...

Angel perfume for men is a fragrance with attitude, that loves to be at the center of attention and to be talked about (whether good things or bad things are said) and suits a person with the same character. It's of course perfect for a night out, even if it would be a waste to use it everyday. Can it be worn in a work environment? The answer would be yes, but bearing in mind that the whole style has to be consistent with the nose-catching attitude of A*Men, which is far from traditional.

Use it if you are not the average Joe, or if you are, but at least for social purposes. Do women like it? Not necessarily. If you're buying this perfume with the explicit intention to help you attract someone (why a man would buy a perfume for any other reason? a good friend of mine would say), I would not take the risk. You date may find you irresistible or may run for the door.

The proper age range to wear Angel perfume for men would be between 25 (better 30) and 45. Also check this other barrel about Angel perfume for women and its family.
