Animals in the North Pole: How Do They Survive the Cold Climate?

You can find varieties of animals in the North Pole. The North Pole is located on the top most part of the earth. It is also known as the Arctic Region. The climate is extremely cold hence animal species found in the North Pole have special qualities that can help them survive extreme climate. They have unique characteristics that enable them to adapt to very cold climate and to prevent extreme heat loss from their body.

Animals in the North Pole include arctic fox, beluga whale, northern fur seal, arctic tern and many others more. The arctic fox is one of the many species found in the North Pole. They have thick fur that helps them to adapt to cold climate. They have thick white fur that helps them to hide form their predators. Their white fur blends with the color of the snow thus making it difficult to spot them on an environment covered with a lot of snow. During the summer, their fur turns into grayish-brown that perfectly blends with the environment when all the snow has already melted. They feed on small animals like birds and fishes.

One of the inhabitant animals in the North Pole is the Beluga whale. Beluga whales are also known as sea canary or white whale. They can grow for as big as 15 feet. When a beluga whale becomes an adult, its color turns into white and its body becomes stouter. The head is also relatively round and small. The whale has 34 sharp teeth that allow them to easily tear their prey like crustaceans, squids, worms and octopus.

The northern fur seal is also found on the North Pole. They have very thick fur that protects them from cold climate. They also live in colonies. However, when they need to travel in water, they divide their group colony into smaller groups called rafts. They thrive on fish, octopus and other small animals found in water. The perfect time for their hunting spree is usually during the night. However, they should be very careful because they are also hunted by bigger animals like sharks and killer whales.

The North Pole is also inhabited by the arctic terns. The arctic tern is a kind of bird that is 15 inches long. They have white feathers and red feet. They usually go to the arctic region during their breeding season. However, when the winter season sets in, they usually migrate towards the Antarctic region. They travel for around 21,750 miles from Arctic region to the Antarctic region. These animals feed on insects and small fishes. All animals in the North Pole have thick and white coat that serves as protection from their predator and insulator during the cold season.
