Anti Static Products Guide

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

If you've ever worked with in the field of electronics, including the creation and repair of computer systems, you are likely familiar with the range of anti static products that are designed to protect both you and your electronic components from the buildup of static electricity. Static electricity occurs when an electric charge builds up on the surface of an object. Although this may not mean much to most inanimate objects, anything electronic can be substantially damaged if it comes into contact with static electricity.

Anti Static Mat

An anti static mat is ideal for those who work with electronic components. In this field, you always need to be grounded to avoid static shocks, and to ensure the safety of the electronics. An anti static mat is placed underneath the components and/or the person working on them to reduce the occurrence of static electricity. These mats are connected to ground through wire and are made from various materials including vinyl and stainless steel fiber. They have a very high resistance to static electricity, and any current that builds up will pass through slowly and protect the sensitive electrical devices and the person standing on top of it. Anti static carpeting is also available and provides a higher level of protection.

Anti Static Bags

Similarly, anti static bags are used to hold various electrical components such as memory sticks, sound cards, and hard drives. They are created from waterproof and noncorrosive polyethylene materials, and include various designs from semi-transparent bags to foam and bubble wrap. Anti static bags are ideal for packaging small electronic components that need to be shipped, transported or stored. This is especially important if you are moving electronic components over a substantial distance, or shipping them in the mail, as these are ideal conditions for natural static electricity to build up. Anti static bags work to dissipate this charge without harming the devices inside.

Anti Static Clothing

There is also a range of anti static clothing available, including grounding shoes, anti static wrist straps, and smocks. These combined with other anti static products provide optimal protection against static electricity for both the person working on the electronic devices and the components themselves.
