Apple Macbook Pro

An honest review

I've been using Apple Macintosh computers since the age of 15. My family are also all Mac users. As a result, I've tried out the Imacs, Macbooks, Macbook pros, and Macbook Airs. I recently picked up a new 2011 Macbook Pro.

Obviously, it's a pretty awesome machine. Here are my thoughts on it as well as a few tips and tricks for using it. The purpose of this Apple Macbook Pro Review is to highlight the pros and cons of this computer and tell you about the stuff that matters to the user. You can go on the Apple site and read all the technical specs and stuff. What you can't do is ask a ridiculously cool computer user what he thinks of the new Macbook Pro. That's where I come in. Here goes.

I'm rocking the 15 inch widescreen and it is pretty gorgeous. Colours are clear and crips and I can watch HD movies seamlessly. There were a few options when I got it to get a glossy or anti-glare screen but I opted for the normal one.

Ease of Use

So far so good. The keyboard is big enough, the trackpad is super easy to navigate with and has some nice features (such as scrolling, zooming etc.) My Magic Mouse connects easily with it for when I need a bit more/faster control (Vice City).

I opted for the 2.2 GHZ model and it is blisteringly fast. I'm constantly running multiple programs that require a lot of memory and processing power (final cut pro, photoshop etc.) and my Macbook seems to handle it without a hiccup.

There's lots of ways for me to connect stuff to my computer. 2 USB ports, 1 SD card slot (use this all the time), headphone and microphone jacks, cd/dvd slot, ethernet port (using this right now), 1 firewire port , and another hole which I'm not sure what to put in it. There's also a thunderbolt port which is the new super high speed transfer technology. I don't yet have anything I can plug into this port but I'm looking forward to trying it out. It could make my video editing much faster.

Noisy and Hot

Usually i like things that are noisy and hot. Parties, women, dragons but my computer is an exception. I've found that when It really gets going this Macbook pro puts out a fair amount of heat and sometimes a bit of noise as well. This isn't really a huge issue as it cools down quickly but I would still list it as a "con".

Lion (Rawr)

Lion is the newest operating system introduced by Apple. I waited about a month before upgrading as I heard it was a bit buggy. It seems to be working pretty good now. My favourite feature was the heavily upgraded Mail application as this is something I use everyday. It's a lot easier to keep track of conversations now and find old messages. I already mentioned the multi-touch gestures. They make doing things on my laptop a lot quicker and easier than before. There's a bunch of other new features they've rolled out which are also pretty cool but I won't go into too much detail here. You can read about them on the Apple site.
