Apprenticeships in Plumbing

A plumbing apprentice program is a serious opportunity to start a rewarding career as a journeyman plumber. Plumbers make good money; roughly $50 per year. Many plumbers apprentice programs lead to the situation where you get so good at your job that you are able to open up your own small business, and guess what? If you follow through with your plumber apprentice program and do this, you will be making a whole lot more than $50k per year!

Plumber apprentice jobs only take the best candidates, so it's important to put real effort into getting accepted into a apprentice program.

You will need to have at least graduated from high school to get into a plumber apprentice program. A GED also serves the purpose. You want to make sure that you have the math skills to be able to do well in a plumbing apprentice position.

Many people think that trade jobs are easy, that the only real education is the kind that comes from a 4 year university. This couldn't be further form the truth! Plumber apprentice jobs require serious problem solving skills and the ability to think critically. You must be able to get along well with people if you're going to be a plumber apprentice, and as mentioned earlier, math skills are extremely important.

Plumber apprentice jobs are not hard or impossible to find. You can find plumbing apprentice jobs through your Department of Labor (visit their website). Here they will list all of the agencies that have an opening for plumber apprentice jobs. There should also be a small write up about what it takes to get accepted.

Another way to get apprentice training is to approach small plumbing companies and let them know that you are interested in investing in a plumbing career. They may tell you to go get your apprentice card and before you know it, you'll be driving the company van and well on your way to becoming a journeyman plumber.

It takes roughly 5 years, or 10,000 hours in a plumbing apprentice job to become a journeymen. This sounds like a lot of hours, but really it is just 5 years of full time, paid , on-the-job training. Plumbing apprentice training usually starts out at around $12 and hour and increases every 6 months by a dollar.

Once you become a journeymen plumber, the sky's the limit. Kick back and let someone else be the boss and make $50k a year, or open up your own plumbing business and make much more; it's up to you!
