Some people believe that locking the doors and windows to their home is adequate protection from intruders; that is not the case. Functions that are included can be the ability to call a pre-programmed number, i.e. the police, when triggered while others can call a number and leave a message informing that someone has just broken into your home. Most detectors come handy with a remote control to turn the alarm on or off. Others come with a microphone that enables you to listen in on other rooms if the alarm has been set off.

Some people opt to install motion alarm sensors by themselves in order to save money. However, improper installation can lead to the device not working if there is an intruder or the alarm being set off all the time even when there isn't an intruder. It is best to have a professional install the device to ensure that it will work properly. Detectors should be placed in an area where intruders will have to walk through, such as the stairs of hallway. They shouldn't be put in an area where they are in direct contact with heat or where the sun will be able to shine on them for prolonged periods of the day. Professionals will be able to install them in the proper places to avoid damage.

No matter what kind of motion detector you purchase for your home, you will be adequately protected just as long as the detector as been installed properly. Detectors can be programmed to set off apartment alarm systems if someone is too close to your property, or they can set off an alarm if your home has been broken into.
