Are Push Button Locks Secure?
Yes, this is one of the main reasons why they are such a popular lock to use. They are very simple to operate. Each person is given a pin code that must be entered into the keypad, in order for the door to open. You can have everyone use the same pin code, or some locks offer the possibility of having multiple pin codes.
They really do offer some of the best security around, when it comes to door locks. A big plus with using this type of security system is that you do not have to worry about lost or missing, or stolen keys. It is often very difficult to keep track of keys, especially the more that you give out. In fact, it is often for this very reason that apartment owners, home owners and other business owners switch to the push button lock system.
There are two major types of push button locks. You have mechanical locks and electronic locks. While both work the same way, in principle, there are some major difference between them that should be taken into consideration before purchasing one.
The mechanical push button lock is comprised of only mechanical parts. This means that should something go wrong with the locking mechanism, it is usually a very simple process to have it repaired, or the part replaced. It does not rely on any external source of power either, thus it can be installed in any location. It's use is more basic, usually there is one key combination that is used for the pin code. This type of lock does offer very good security, it is strong, long lasting and does not break down very easily.
Electronic push button locks also offer very good security. They are often used in large apartment complexes, office buildings, or areas where there is a large amount of traffic coming and going from a building. These type of locks also offer more options. For example, you can have different security pin numbers given, which will activate the door at specific periods during the day. You could have one set of pin numbers that would work to open the door in the morning, and another that works when the afternoon or night shift clocks in. That would restrict access during certain times to only those people who are supposed to be there.
The electric push button lock is usually more complex to install, and it relies on an external power source, such as a battery, or electricity. While this is often the lock of choice for larger offices and buildings, you can also find moderately priced electric locks that are suitable for average homes as well.
