Are you a Good Employee?

By Edited Jan 10, 2016 0 0

Nick Kemper talks about manager’s that may fall into the trap of thinking they have to do everything themselves.   When you have a good employee, this would be a good time to delegate some of that work to them.

Representation

Remember when you work for a corporation you take on that corporation's culture and represent that corporation.   So things that you do can affect your corporation.  Speak well to others of your workplace.  If you talk negatively to others about it, remember you are representing your workplace.

Leave Your Problems at home

There are times I have seen employees come to work angry and taking it out on their customers.  This is unacceptable at the workplace.   We all have problems and will have problems as long as we live on this earth.  We need to leave our problems at home, put on a happy face, and treat our customers like valued employees.   Don’t have the attitude  that you would rather be somewhere else.  There are times when I have been in Meijer and was looking for a product.  I really appreciate when the associates stop and ask, “Is there something I can help you with?”  Or they might ask, “Are you finding everything okay?”  That shows that even though they may not work in that area, they are willing and ready to help me if I need help.   I really like that.  That is an example of  a good employee.

 Smile

You will be surprise what a smile will do for you, your coworkers, and your customers.  A good employee will take time to smile.

When an employee takes the time to make eye-contact and give a customer a smile, it lets the customers know they are a valuable customer.

 Cellphone Usage

Have you ever been standing in the checkout line in a store and when you reach the register you see the cashier talking on a personal call on their cellphone?  That is not acceptable.   When they are talking on their phone, they cannot give you the undivided attention that you deserve.  That is an example of a good employee.

Diane at dianegottsman.com talks about seeking out good qualities in your workplace which includes your manager and co-workers.  I agree with that. It is a good feeling to feel appreciated.   I have seen co-workers that have done a good job and I made sure that I let them know.

I recall my article “Does Prayer Work for Tim Tebow?”  Diane Sawyer interviewed him and he emphasized besides giving credit to God that his team was a great part of his winning.   He was very humble.  Just another example of a good employee.

John F. Hein at fedsmith.com emphasizes that good employees will continue  being courageous and do the right thing and report corruption.  He further adds good employees do not fear bad ones.  I do believe this.  It also shows integrity to do the right thing when no one else is watching you.   Think about it.   Are you a good employee?
