By Edited Sep 8, 2015 0 0

The Aroma AWK-115S electric kettle is a great choice for anyone who is looking for a cordless kettle to make their morning tea, hot cocoa, oatmeal, and other meals that require hot water. I've been using this model since March 2010 on a daily basis and have never had a problem. It has saved me time and effort and I wouldn't want to live without it. Here is an overview of the product and a review of its strengths and weaknesses.

Aroma AWK-115S Electric Kettle Details

I don't have a large kitchen, so finding something with a small footprint was a must for me. Since I use it every day I wanted something that would stay on my counter full time. This kettle meets this criteria with dimensions in inches of 8 x 8 x 9. It weighs just under three pounds, so while it is light enough for anyone to use you can tell that it has a sturdy construction.

Features of the Aroma Cordless Kettle

The Aroma tea kettle can hold 1 1/2 liters of water. It boils fairly quickly and takes about a minute to boil a cup. There is a water-level indicator on the side. The minimum level is enough to boil water for one cup of tea. There is no need to watch over it as it boils because it has an automatic shut off. Just make sure that there is nothing blocking the switch to prevent it from popping up. The handle stays cool so it is easy and safe to hold.

It sets on a small base, which you should always keep dry. The cord is on the base, so you can pick up the kettle easily and move it around. It can be put back on the base from any direction. This makes it an ideal electric kettle for people who are left handed.

The main reason I chose the Aroma AWK-115S electric kettle is that I liked its stainless-steel housing. Many of the other brands are plastic and I was concerned with that affecting the taste and the quality of the water. There are none of those worries with the stainless-steel Aroma kettle. It has a spout filter that you can wash and remove.

Price and Ratings of the Aroma Kettle

The Aroma kettle is affordable with a list price of $30. It is sold in many places that have small home appliances, or you can buy it online at a store like Amazon. With free shipping, this is often the cheapest and most convenient option.

At Amazon it is one of the most popular electric kettles sold. In addition to being one of the best selling it is also one of the best rated. It currently has over 300 reviews and manages to maintain a four and a half star rating.

Since the Aroma is everything I wanted and needed in a $30 electric tea kettle, I had trouble coming up with its weaknesses. So after looking at all of the complaints about this model, I determined that its main weakness was its one year limited warranty.

This product doesn't have an unusually high defective rater, but of course there are some. If you do get a product that doesn't shut off automatically or has other problems, you can send it in for a repair. While the repair is free, you have to pay for the shipping costs. Since this is a cheap electric tea kettle, I'm not sure if sending it in is even worth it. I don't know how this warranty compares to other brands.

This is an electric water kettle and not a water warmer. If you are looking for something that will keep water hot for a long period of time you'll need to spend more money on something that is labeled water boiler and warmer.

Uses of the Aroma AWK-115S Electric Kettle

The Aroma is often considered a cordless electric tea kettle, but it has many uses. I mainly use it for tea, as I drink multiple cups a day. Before I bought this tea kettle I was forced to use a microwave to make my tea. This had several disadvantages. For one, the mug would often become too hot to comfortably hold. Another problem with using the microwave was that I could only make one cup at a time. With the Aroma AWK-115S kettle I have made four cups of tea at once. My other option was to boil water in a pot on the stove. I didn't like doing this because I was required to watch the water level closely. Because I didn't have a kettle and just a regular pot, pouring the boiling water into the cup was also a safety concern.
While I use it primarily for tea, it does have other uses. If you like to drink hot cocoa or instant coffee, you can use the Aroma kettle to quickly make these drinks as well. It is also useful for making oatmeal. Because it holds over a liter of water, you can boil enough water at once for your oatmeal and your drink.

And of course it can be used beyond breakfast. It is useful for instant soups where you have to add hot water. You can also use the Aroma to quickly boil water for noodles. This will save you time over boiling the water on the stove. If you use this electric kettle a couple of times a week, you can get your money worth. If you think you would only use it a few times a month you might be better off without it.

Other Cordless Electric Kettles to Consider

While I decided that the Aroma AWK-115S electric kettle fit my needs and my budget, it isn't the only one on the market. There are several other brands and models that you can choose from. These cordless kettles all have different features and vary in prices. People who want to spend under $20 might want to look into the Kalorik JK-19967 Cordless Jug Kettle, the West Bend 53783 Cordless Water Kettle, or the Presto 02703 Electric Tea Kettle.

Models similar in price to the Aroma include the T-Fal BF6520004 Vitesse Electric Kettle, the Oster 5965 Electric Water Kettle, and the Hamilton Beach 10 Cup Electric Kettle Stainless Steel.

Other people may be more interested in top of the line models. If $50-$70 is in your budget you might want to consider the Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless Electric Kettle, the Capresso 259.03 H2O Plus Glass Water Kettle, the Adagio Teas 3 UtiliTEA Variable-Temperature 30-Ounce Electric Kettle, the Cuisinart KUA-17 Cordless Automatic Electric Kettle, or the Krups BW3990 Kettle.

Anyone who needs a pro model and is able to spend $100 or more should think about the Cuisinart CPK-17 PerfecTemp Cordless Electric Kettle, the Zojirushi CD-WBC30 Micom Electric 3-Liter Water Boiler and Warmer, or the Zojirushi CV-DSC40 VE Hybrid Water Boiler and Warmer.
