Arsenal have won a record number of FA Cups and a couple of European trophies. So they have had plenty of cup glory. These are some of their greatest cup games in Europe and the FA Cup.

Arsenal vs Man Utd FA Cup Final

Arsenal have played Man Utd in two FA Cup finals, one of which was in 1979. The Arsenal team that reached the final included some of their great player such as O'Leary and the inspirational Brady on the right-wing. Brady was one of the stars of the game.

Arsenal dominated much of this final. Brady set up Talbot to score the opening goal of the game within the first 15 minutes. Shortly before the interval Arsenal doubled their lead, and were seemingly on course for a big victory in this cup final.

However, in the second half Arsenal remained just two goals up before Utd scored late in the game from a set-piece. That made the score 2 – 1, and a few minutes later a late Utd equalizer leveled the scoring. A prosaic final had sprung to life.

The game seemed to be heading for extra time after Utd's great comeback. But in the dying minutes of the final Brady crossed to Sunderland at the far post, and the ball was slid into the back of Utd's net. The goal ensured an enthralling 3 – 2 victory for Arsenal, and with its explosive finish the game is now the Five-minute Final.

Arsenal vs Chelsea FA Cup Final

It's not often that Arsenal play out derbies in the FA Cup. Nor is it often that they play in FA Cup finals with a potential league and cup double to win. However, Arsenal's outstanding form in the league had put them top of the table and on course for a Premiership triumph before they played Chelsea in this final. This was perhaps Arsenal's greatest team, which included stars such as Bergkamp, Henry, Viera and Ljungberg.

In the final the score remained 0 – 0 after the first half. In the second Arsenal stepped up a gear, and with about 20 minutes left to play Parlour put them one goal up with a fine strike from 25 yards out. It was a great FA Cup final goal, and 10 minutes later Ljungberg also curled one in from some distance to put Arsenal two ahead. That was another fine goal that won Arsenal the FA Cup, and after that they also clinched the league title to seal the double.

Arsenal vs Sheffield Wednesday FA Cup Final

The FA Cup final between Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday was not a classic. However, having already won the League Cup, the victory in this FA Cup final was a notable one for Arsenal that clinched a League Cup and FA Cup double. As the first game of the longest ever cup final was drawn 1 – 1, the teams played a replay.

The second game wasn't much better than the first. Arsenal took the lead during the first half, but Wednesday once again rallied with a second half equalizer. That much ensured that the final went to extra time, and the game seemed to be heading to penalties. However, a last-minute header made the score Arsenal 2 – Sheffield Wednesday 1.

Arsenal vs Anderlecht

Many fans consider the Fairs Cup final between Arsenal and Anderlecht not just one of the club's best European games, but one of the best matches generally. Arsenal were 3 - 1 down to Anderlecht in the second leg, so needed two goals to win the final in the return leg at Highbury. The team soon got on the score-sheet in the first half. They continued to press for the key second goal that duly came in the 75th minute. A third goal soon after sealed the game, completed a great comeback and won Arsenal their first European trophy.

Arsenal vs Barcelona

Although this match had the wrong result for Arsenal, it is still their first and only Champions League final game to date. Arsenal made their way to 2006 final after some fine showings in the Champions League against the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus in the previous rounds. In the final, they played Barcelona and they made a good start in the game too until Lehmann got sent off for a foul in the first half. This left Arsenal to play on for the remainder of the game with 10 men.

Despite this, they were able to go a goal in front in the first half, a lead they would keep until the last quarter when Barcelona broke Arsenal's resistance with an equalizing goal. Then Belleti sealed the game for Barcelona with a second goal to end the match 2 - 1 to Barcelona. Overall, it was still a good display from Arsenal.

Inter Milan vs Arsenal

One of Arsenal's finest Champions League wins came against Inter Milan in the group stages. The Gunners had made a slow start to the Champions League, and needed some sort of a result against Inter Milan to keep them in the cup. In the end, they got some result as Arsenal ran rampant in the second half to run out 5 - 1 winners in this game. In the first half, the game was relatively even and ended 1 - 1. However, a good start in the second saw Arsenal get back in front. In the final 10 minutes Inter Milan caved in as Henry, Edu and Pires all got on the score sheet in Arsenal's biggest ever Champions League win.[1]

Real Madrid vs Arsenal

En route to the Champions League final, Arsenal needed to beat Real Madrid. This they did at the Bernabeu thanks to an Henry goal. The win gave them a 1 - 0 advantage for the second leg. The game at Highbury was a thrilling finale that somehow ended 0 - 0, but that was enough to send Arsenal into the quarter-finals.

These are some of Arsenal's finest matches in European and FA Cup soccer. They include the Fairs and Champions League finals, the 5 - 1 demolition of Inter Milan, the Man U and Chelsea FA Cup finals and their historic 1 - 0 at the Bernabeu. All were great cup games for the Gunners.
