Different Signs of the Zodiac
Astrology or Zodiac signs can be represented in many forms and this article examines the way we look at astrology. For example Zodiac signs are related to certain months and times of the year but then they are also related to the actual year of birth as well. Planets and their positions are liked to all the astrology signs and animals or creatures are also linked, but only to some of them. There are several other connections too such as Air, Water, Wind and Fire that can offer explanations on this fascinating field of study. Astrology studies are more tangible and understandable and differ greatly from psychic phenomena and other ethereal topics like astral projection or remote viewing.

The Chinese Zodiac links animals to each lunar year. There are 12 creatures or animals linked with the astrology years and the animals from 2001 to 2012 in reverse order are as follows:
The creature linked with the year 2012 is the Dragon
The creature linked with the year 2011 is the Hare
The creature linked with the year 2010 is the Tiger
The creature linked with the year 2009 is the Ox
The creature linked with the year 2008 is the Rat
The creature linked with the year 2007 is the Boar
The creature linked with the year 2006 is the Dog
The creature linked with the year 2005 is the Rooster
The creature linked with the year 2004 is the Monkey
The creature linked with the year 2003 is the Sheep
The creature linked with the year 2002 is the Horse
The creature linked with the year 2001 is the Snake
The Zodiac animal years
The cycle for each of the animal years is a 12 year one so the Year of the Dragon was celebrated in both 1998 and 2000 and will be celebrated in 2012 and 2024 and so on. The Year of the Rat was in 2008 but will come due again in 2020. It should be noted that the Zodiac animal year differs from the Roman calendar year in that the start date can be in late January or early February. It is depending upon the start of the lunar calendar which is at odds from January 1st by about 1 month. The subject is complex and anyone born in January would have to consult a Chinese lunar calendar to ascertain which Zodiac animal they were connected with.
12 year astrology cycle
What this all means of course is that if you are born in the Year of the Tiger, for example, then you will celebrate the year of the Tiger when you are 12 years old and 24 years old and so on, A big occasion occurs when you reach 60 years of age because your Year of the Tiger will again be occurring. When you reach this 60 year mark it is customary to have a special celebration when you must wear a special red garb and all your friends and family prepare a big meal for the occasion. The wearing of red is symbolic with birth and the reaching of 60 signals a rebirth of the individual. Life begins at sixty in China, or so it seems in Chinese culture.
Postage Stamps connection with Astrology
Twelve stamps are to be issued by the Canadian Postal Service that will be connected with Zodiac astrology signs. The Zodiac calendar will be presented in a set but philatelists, young and old, will have to wait to collect the entire edition as only four stamps have been issued so far.
Canada Post Astrology Stamps
The four postage stamps were issued in 2011, the first one just a few days prior to April, at the start of the Zodiac year. Three more stamps have been released in May, June and July and the remaining eight Astrology signs stamps will be issued in 2012 and 2013. Make sure to keep a check for new issues if you are determined to obtain the full set.
Aries postage stamp of the Zodiac
1st Sign of the Zodiac
This beautiful stamp depicts the Ram, which is synonymous with the Zodiac sign Aries. The Spring Equinox starts the Zodiac and features Aries, the Ram, which is one of the earth signs. One who is born under this star sign possesses powers of leadership, a born leader, so to speak, who will speak up against injustices as they see them.
Taurus postage stamp of the Zodiac
2nd Sign of the Zodiac
This beautiful stamp depicts the Bull, which are synonymous with the Zodiac sign Taurus. Just like the Ram, the Bull is also an earth sign but a powerfully strong one. The bull knows what it wants and is unwavering in it attempts to reach its goal. People born under this sign are determined and true.
Gemini postage stamp of the Zodiac
3rd Sign of the Zodiac
This beautiful stamp depicts the Twins, which are synonymous with the Zodiac sign Gemini. The duality of the Twins symbol makes this an interesting air sign strongly associated with the planet Mercury. People with the Zodiac influence of the Gemini are said to be young at heart and full of the joy of living.
Cancer postage stamp of the Zodiac
4th Sign of the Zodiac
This beautiful stamp depicts the crab, which is synonymous with the Zodiac sign Cancer. The sea crab makes this an obvious water sign and those who are born under the influence of the Cancer sign are said to homely and are quite happy in their own environment and are fiercely loyal to their loved ones.
The remainder of the Astrology Zodiac signs in stamp format will be issued in due course so collectors will have to keep a close eye on new stamp issues from Canada. These are issued as per the calendar month they reference but the full collection will not be available until 2013.

Hi, I like that "life begins at 60 in China." I love astrology AND astronomy. :)
Hi footloose, thank you for your comments. With people living longer, 60 does seems like a good age to retire and yet start your life of leisure (or activity). I do like astrology but am learning a bit about astronomy too along the way. I was delighted to come across the stamps featuring the Zodiac symbols and I will be making sure that I gather the 12 Zodiac signs in stamp format as I think they are beautifully done.
I find the stamp designs quite good. Hopefully they have a pair of nice salmon on the pisces stamp next year!
Hi javrsmith, thank you for your comments on my postage stamps. I quite like the Canadian design as it seems like some thought has gone into the process even though the time between the issues is too long. Some countries issue really boring stamps, which is odd, because it is a fact that popular postage stamps will outsell the mediocre ones by more than double. When the Elvis stamp was issued by USPS many local post offices ran out of them on the first day of issue.
