At Home Foot Massage

Begin the process of foot massage by dipping your legs in a warm water-filled basin that has a few drops of essential oils poured into it to loosen the tense muscles of the feet. Once done, make yourself comfortable in a reclining chair if you can enjoy the luxury of it being done by a partner. Some of the basic steps to be performed are mentioned below;

Ankle rotation

One of the time-proven techniques, ankle rotation is done by holding the ball of the foot with one hand and slowly rotating the ankle in a clockwork and anti-clockwork direction for a few times, until the body relaxes.

Stroking

Stroking is a foot massage that is performed to pump more blood. Under this technique you stroke the feet from the toes down to the ankle in a slow, but firm motions, and then back to the toes in a lighter motion for three to five times.

Toe pull

Pulling the toes by placing the toe between the thumb and the index finger can offer you immense pleasure. Starting from the base of your toe, gently squeeze the way up to the toe to move back to the base again. Perform this technique and see the difference!

Thumb walking

As the name suggests, it involves 'walking' your thumbs from the base of the foot to the toes in a circulation pattern to cover all parts of the foot.

These are the basic techniques for a good foot massage. Other types of foot massage that are popular today are the Chinese foot massage and the Thai foot massage. Under the Chinese massage, acupuncture points are identified where pressure is applied that can encourage blood circulation. A Thai foot massage is a technique that is a combination of various methods like yoga, Shiatsu, reflexology and the Chinese foot massage. After stretching the reflex points on the feet, hands and the legs, they are massaged to create an invigorating experience.
