Austin Dining

What to expect from dining in Austin

Austin is truly an interesting place, especially so due to the fact that it is the Texas capital. The city is fairly diverse, and attracts residents and visitors from all over the country. This city's diversity is reflected in the number of dining choices that are available. Whether you're a traveler looking for quick, inexpensive food, a family looking for kid-friendly dining, or looking for a nice place for special ocassions, you can find a good place to eat easily.

Some of the best dining in Austin options are found downtown, close to all of the city's major attractions. Hut's Burgers is one of the most popular casual restaurants, with plenty of juicy burgers, and Jazz is one of the best places to sample spicy Louisiana-style cuisine. Asian food options range from casual eateries like Koriente Restaurant & Teahouse to Uchiko, which offers a more upscale experience.  For European flavors, try Jean Luc's French Bistro.

There are several other good places to try that are outside of downtown, but conveniently inside the city limits. The Bakehouse Restaurant & Bar serves a variety of cuisine choices for all tastes. Chez Zee American bistro offers American favorites at reasonable prices. Stop by Bill Miller for the BBQ that makes Texas famous. For spicy curries, visit the Indian Palace.

If you're going to be spending time in the Warehouse District, there are several great dining in Austin options to choose from as you explore the area. Truluck's Seafood, Steak and Crab offers a nice dining experience with something for everyone. The Saba Blue Water Cafe is a good place to sample many international favorites.

The surrounding areas also offer good dining choices, especially for people looking for a fine dining experience. North By Northwest Restaurant & Brewery and Silver and Stone Restaurant
are upscale options perfect for special ocassions. The Veranda is a good Italian restaurant with a nice atmosphere.

Before you decide which restaurant to choose, find out if reservations are required or encouraged. Because Austin is such a busy place, popular restaurants will fill up very quickly. It is also a good idea to find out if a kids' menu is offered, and whether or not there is a dress code.
