BJs Club Will Save You Money

By Edited Jan 18, 2016 2 2

Save money and time by shopping at a BJs Club.

BJs Club

I belong to three warehouse stores, and BJs Club is my favorite of the three. Why is BJs Club my favorite? The reason is that it is more like a large grocery store that also sells clothing, books, electronics, glasses and contacts, jewelry, automotive supplies, gas, etc. BJs Club also offers services such as travel, insurance, home improvement, auto buying, etc. I have an Inner Circle Membership at BJs Club that costs me $45 per year. Each year, since I have been a member, I have saved much more than I paid for the membership.

Many of you may not be familiar with BJs Club since they are primarily located in fifteen states on the East Coast of the United States. It has only been where I live for a couple of years. About the time they opened, I met someone who felt that BJs Club offered better deals than the other warehouse stores. So, when BJs Club mailed out a membership trial offer, I visited the store and signed up.

When I say BJs Club is like a grocery store it is because they carry a large selection of brand name products, and they allow you to use manufacturer's coupons on your purchases. Plus, if you are purchasing a product made up of more than one package, and each individual package has a UPC code, you are allowed to use a manufacturer's coupon for each UPC code contained in the package. For instance, I purchase Oscar Mayer, Rotisserie Seasoned Chicken Breast lunchmeat. It comes with three nine-ounce packages wrapped together with a UPC code on each package. Therefore, I can use three manufacturer's coupons on this purchase. Wow, what a savings! The cost of three packages is already lower than in the store, and when combined with the manufacturer's coupons, it becomes a super deal.

In addition to using manufacturer's coupons, BJs Club also sends out a booklet at least once a month that has coupons inside that can be used throughout the month. In addition to manufacturer's coupons, and their booklet coupons, upon entering the store, they have a rack of flyers that have coupons printed on them. All these coupons add up; two weeks ago, I shopped and used coupons that enabled me to save $28. At BJs Club last week, after scanning and deducting my coupons, I saved $22.

Another great thing about BJs Club is they allow you to charge your purchases on any major credit card you wish. They, of course, also accept cash, checks, debit cards, and EBT cards. I also belong to Costco Warehouse and Sam's Warehouse Store; both of these warehouse stores only allow you to use the cards they are affiliated with.

While many items sold at BJs Club are in a bulk package, you can also find items in a single size, such as milk and bread. Personally, I like buying in bulk since it allows me to save more money, and I only purchase bulk items that I know I can use in the near future. In addition to the money savings, I also save time since I do not have to shop as frequently for those items.

Some items I save big on are:

The Folgers Classic Decaf coffee that I purchase comes in a 33.9-ounce plastic container, and it sells at my local chain grocery store for $11.99. BJs Club sells this product for $10.99. Use a manufacturer's coupon for $1.00, and that saves me $2.00 on this everyday grocery item. When I find Folgers coffee coupons, I purchase several containers of coffee, and just store them away for future use.

The Oscar Mayer Rotisserie Seasoned Chicken Breast lunchmeat that was mentioned earlier, sells at BJs Club for $7.99 for three packages wrapped together, and sold as one item. The last time I purchased this lunchmeat, I had two manufacturer's coupons for $1.00 each. I used the coupons, and that brought the price down to $5.99 for three packages, or $2.00 per package. The local grocery store I shop in sells this item for $4.49 each, or the on sale price for two is $7.00. As you can see, purchasing this lunchmeat at BJs Club means a big savings for me. Select a package of lunchmeat with an extended expiration date, plan your meals, and you, too, will be able to use three packages, and take advantage of this savings.

One of our breakfast favorites is Honey Nut Cheerios. When you purchase these at BJs Club, they come in a large box that contains two large bags of cereal. I pay $6.49 for 49 ounces of Honey Nut Cheerios; cost per ounce is $.1324. The local chain sells Honey Nut Cheerios in two different sizes: 17 ounces $3.89, or $.2288 per ounce and the 25.25 ounce size box for $4.74, or $.1877 per ounce. So, what would you like to pay for your Honey Nut Cheerios - BJs Club price of $.1324 per ounce, or the chain store price of $.2288 per ounce, or $.1877 per ounce? Present a manufacturer's coupon for this product, at BJs Club, and save even more.

Our family loves Jif Crunchy Peanut Butter. We put it on bread, crackers, or eat it by the spoonful, or however we crave it. Everyday, someone opens this jar. BJs Club sells two 40-ounce jars wrapped together for $6.69. My local chain store sells the same two jars wrapped together for $9.99. Hey, that's $3.30 that I get to keep in my pocket! Don't forget to look for manufacturer's coupons; you can use two coupons because of the two UPC codes, and save even more.

We enjoy Nilla Wafers as a light dessert by themselves, with Jell-O, or I use them in cooking. They are a staple in my pantry. BJs Club sells them in a box containing two 15-ounce packages for $5.49 or $.183 per ounce. The chain grocery near me sells them in a 12-ounce box for $3.49, equaling $.290 per ounce – yet, another great savings.

If you live on the East Coast of the United States, look for a BJs Club in your area. Check their site online to see if they still have a one-day pass that you can print to use to visit their store, and see for yourself if you can save by joining BJs Club. Take a list of the grocery items you purchase, the price of each item, and compare their prices to your local grocery store prices. I have just listed a few staple items that I purchase from BJs Club, but I save on so many more items like, paper towels, toilet tissue, frozen items, etc. Also, recently I purchased a pair of men's Dearfoams bedroom slippers using one of their coupons, and I saved an additional $3.00 off the purchase price.

If you are into saving money – look for a BJs Club in your neighborhood, join, and save money.
