Baby Blankets For Gifts

Since I’m an auntie many times over I often asked advice on appropriate baby blanket gifts for newborn. I can tell you I have bought many such gifts in the past for friends and family so I'll share my knowledge about a couple of the most popular choices with people looking to buy something special for mother and child. I'll also give a pointer as to what you will want to avoid if you have set your mind on purchasing one of these items for a friend.

The Baby Security Blanket

Like choosing any other gift is always pays to put thought into the baby blanket you are about to buy. There is no point nipping down to your local wholesale baby products shop and buying the first thing you see. Doing so will result in giving a present which shows you obviously don't care enough to spend the time required to find something that is just right.

The baby security blanket is always appreciated by both mother and child giving as it does comfort and security to a child when they need to calm down or go to sleep. They are extra special because they are not just of use for wrapping a baby in but are designed to attract baby’s curiosity being a blanket a small baby can grasp and rub their face against, they can be thrown or snuggled or simply looked at when they need something familiar to keep their attention.

Fleece and Baby Receiving Blankets

There are a few other baby blankets that are always welcome gifts like fleece baby blankets that are large enough to later serve as crib bedding or childrens blankets. The other item that always appreciated are baby receiving blankets. Even if mom has been given a dozen, she’ll find a use for everyone. For example during bath time, baby will need a soft place to lay when he/she comes out of the water. To simply spread a couple receiving blankets on the bed under the towel will be enough. Also when baby is naked and makes a little shower the first thing mom may have on hand is a receiving blanket. It’s good if receiving blankets aren’t too fancy or decorated, just plain white or a solid color cotton.

Baby Blanket Gifts with Unhappy endings

The gifts that don’t always have a happy ending are custom baby blankets that have been personalized with the baby’s name but misspelled or the date but it’s wrong, and acrylic heavy knit baby blankets and monogrammed baby blankets that are poorly done by machine. It can be lovely to receive a designer anything, but designer baby blankets may be difficult to choose because they often have a theme or pattern that may not be in keeping with the nursery or what mom has in mind. Overly decorated with specific Disney characters or designer themes may be best left to those who know mom really well and know what characters and designers she likes. To baby it won’t matter, but baby blanket gifts are mostly for mom, let’s face it.
