You want your baby room to be the kind of place your child enjoys being in. This will make both bed times and nights a lot more bearable.

A Changing Table

You'll probably be doing a fair bit of night time changing in the first few months or so and it makes things a lot easier if you have a dedicated changing table complete with a changing mat and places to put diapers, cotton wool etc.

Try and find one at about waist height so as to not strain your back too much.

A Nice Child-Friendly Color For The Walls

I favor pastel colors just because they give a nice soothing feel. But there's nothing wrong with something a bit brighter.

I'd advice staying away from darker colors however as they can make the room seem a little gloomy. Remember the nursery should be a fun, happy place. This translates into stress free bedtimes and peaceful nights, hopefully..

We have a pale blue in our child's room which seems to do the trick. It looks good and he's never complained anyway!

A Good Bedding Collection

A good quality bedding collection can go a long way to making your nursery look good and to making the crib an attractive place for the little one. For example, many Disney baby bedding are very affordable and are a popular option.

Fun Posters or Pictures

Another one of the important baby room essentials are wall decors such as fun posters and interesting pictures.

Alphabet pictures are great as they teach your little one a thing or two as well as usually having pictures of fun-looking animals. But there's plenty of choice out there. My little one has a big poster of Winnie the Pooh that he loves, as well as the alphabet pictures mentioned before.

Lots of storage options

Kids stuff just accumulates and accumulates. The more storage space you have the better. So try and put up some book shelves for his books and the like.

Hanging corner baskets are also good as they keep things off the floor and other surfaces.

A good tip is to try and incorporate storage into any furniture you buy for the room. So a changing table for example, is excellent value if it also has drawers incorporated in it.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to give your child a nursery that he will love and that looks good. Posters for example are cheap as are many crib bedding sets .

Remember that the overall goal is to make it somewhere attractive for your little one. The more it achieves this goal the easier life becomes for you.

And believe me, life will be tiring enough with a new addition to the family without bed times being an issue too!
