The tradition of bringing gifts to the mother and the new child by friends and family began with the ancient Egyptians. These were mostly handmade gifts to acknowledge the blessed event of childbirth. Here are some modern day inexpensive baby shower ideas to make the mommy feel special.

The whole idea behind a baby shower is to give the parents things that are required for a new baby. For parents expecting their second or third baby, the best baby shower ideas would be to get them gifts that make life easier. These could be frozen homemade dinners or vouchers for babysitting.

A baby shower must be at least one month before the baby is due. It involves a lot of planning and you need to first consult the parents-to-be. It is important to take into consideration the personality and style of the mother so you can throw a baby shower that is successful and enjoyable. You can also throw a baby shower after the baby is born to ensure that the gifts are sex specific. This is especially useful for jewelery where the name of the baby can be engraved on it.

A great baby shower idea is to design your own invitation cards making it more personal and fun. This would also be less expensive. Another baby shower idea is to buy inexpensive baby socks and insert the theme and information about the baby shower into them using the socks as invitations!

Some more baby shower ideas involve decorating baby bibs or shirts with fabric paints and creating a personal message or print on them. You could also purchase inexpensive baskets and fill them up with baby products and wrap it all up in cellophane sheets. How about filling up baby shoes or socks with little cookies, candies or chocolates?

Baby shower ideas could be around themes, one being a bottles and balloons theme. Fill up baby bottles with chocolates and sweets for a centerpiece and add balloons around the room. You could also fill up small brown paper bags with small cakes and cookies and tie them up with colorful ribbons. The guests would love to receive goody bags in all shapes and sizes . Cut up some netting into squares, fill it up with chocolates and attach a thank you card to it!

Make the mother feel special with baby shower ideas involving gift carriers filled with candles, bath salts or little soaps. With some creativity, you can come up with endless baby shower ideas to make it a memorable day for everybody.

I love the first part of your article, because you gave us a little history. You gave several great gift ideas. My favorite one was filling up the carrier with other gifts as well. Great article.
