Many people feel that babywearing is a new trend that has been starting within the last few years. However, many people have been babywearing for decades now. If you look back in time at old pictures you can see people used to babywear years ago. Of course the carriers are much more fancier now than they were back then. It is also a common tradition in many countries as well. It seems as though it has become more popular in the U.S. They say African babies hardly ever cry because they are close to their mom as they are always being worn.
To wear your baby in a ring sling you will need your sling and your baby. Make sure you get a ring sling that is good quality. One with metal rings are the best. You also want a comfortable breathable fabric.
Start by positioning your ring sling. You should be able to put one arm into the sling comfortable while placing the other side of the sling on your opposite shoulder. Carefully slide your baby into the material and create a seat for him. Bring the uppermost material up and around the shoulders of your baby. You can then tighten your rails. Start by tightening the top rail and then the middle, followed by the bottom rail. The ring sling should be tight, but not too tight where it is uncomfortable for you or baby.
It is always recommended that feet are sticking out of the sling just to ensure that baby isn't putting too much pressure on their feet. All of their weigh should be on their bum.
Be sure the pleaded shoulder side is on your shoulder completely. If it is too far over onto your neck it may cause you to have some shoulder or neck pain from the pressure. Don't be afraid to adjust to your comfort level. It takes a few times to adjust and get used to before perfecting it. Don't expect to get it right your very first time as it does take practice. Once you finally get it, it's so easy.
Babywearing is very beneficial for the baby as they are less likely to cry. "Parents in my practice commonly report, “As long as I wear her, she’s content!” Parents of fussy babies who try babywearing relate that their babies seem to forget to fuss."
