Bachata Dance
Nowadays, the Bachata music and Bachata dance are slowly gaining worldwide recognition. People have started to learn more about the Bachata dance and even stage dance events and competitions to promote it. One of the most popular is the Bachata Festival which was first held in 2008 in Australia. The recent 2009 Bachata Festival was a three-day activity comprised of Latin Dance workshops, particularly Bachata dance, competitions, and performances from world-renowned Bachata artists. Another recent event, staged last June 2009, was the Darwin Latin Dance Festival. The festival featured the art of Bachata dance by offering dance workshops and performances that attracted tourists and dance enthusiasts from all over the world.
The Bachata dance is described by dance professionals as a four-step beat with a hip-swaying walk ending with a squat-like dip, or as experts call it, a pop. Another characteristic of the Bachata is that it can be danced both ways – either open or closed positions.
Through the years, different kinds of Bachata dance steps and styles have emerged. The Bachata dance has evolved because of the dancers' modern and contemporary approach to it. Some of the most popular modern Bachata dance routines are the Modern Bachata, Rueda da Bachata, and the Bachata Tango.
The Modern Bachata is the contemporary version of the classic and traditional Bachata dance which incorporates more freestyle moves, more intricate footwork, slides, and locks and break steps. On the other hand, the Rueda da Bachata is inspired by another Latin American dance, the Rueda da Casion from Cuba. The traditional Bachata dance is collaborated with the Cuban dance known for its partner-changing routines. Another contemporary Bachata dance is the Bachata Tango. As what it name suggests, this kind of Bachata dance is incorporated with some of the tango's signature steps such as the kicks, dips, and long pauses.
The increasing popularity of
Bachata through the years has paved the way to Bachata music artists to release
music recordings that are best danced with Bachata. Aside from music CDs,
recording companies and independent short film producers, and Bachata artists
have started producing instructional Bachata DVDs.
Aside from these mediums; Bachata has also invaded the World Wide Web. There are now interactive websites that talk about Bachata, feature the latest events and developments, and even instructional videos on YouTube. These among others help people know more about Bachata dance and promote it for worldwide recognition.
