Bachelor Degree Online Psychology as a Career Path

Have you ever considered a Bachelor Degree in Online Psychology as a Career Path? Let's take a look at what the curriculum would likely be. Unlike most assumption about the curriculum of an online degree program, the actual online degree programs provide virtually the same content as their fellow on ground versions. You would study various fields of psychology, such as learning theory, abnormal psychology, social psychology, neuropsychology, pharmacology, testing and measurements, brain physiology and function. You would also study the prime theories underlying different practices of psychology such as Freudian analysis, Gestalt therapy, Jungian dream analysis, Behavior Modification, etc. The difference between online education and on the ground or traditional education is not a question of what, but a question of how. The delivery system of online programs is very different from the delivery system of traditional schooling.

In traditional programs the student would read books and articles on his subject and listen to lectures and discuss the key ideas in class, usually led by the instructor. This same process goes on in online classes but it is delivered differently. The lectures are programmed to appear online and coordinated with readings and class discussion, which is carried out by interactive feedback visible on a computer monitor. In online education, interaction is the name of the game and the instructors are trained to promote it. The instructor may call on a class member and then ask the student to amplify, clarify or analyze what another student has just stated.

The Value of Asynchronous Organization in Online Classes.

The students in an online class which is organized according to asynchronous principles are free to travel from state to state or country to country. All they need is their laptop. They are not bound by time and space. Students could communicate with students in other states or countries and yet the class itself cohesive. The instructor, too, has the freedom to travel. As long as the instructor provides feedback in twenty four to forty eight hours, the class will maintain integrity.

An online classroom has a different look than one might expect if he/she has always been taught conventionally. On entry one sees a monitor with several subdivided sections. To the left of the screen one sees directions to read the intro of the course and to trace the development of the course. You see, the entire curriculum of the course is compressed into the left side of the screen. To the top of the monitor, you will see The Announcement Screen. Here, the student can receive information about policies on plagiarism, grading, including makeup work, and attendance. The Center of the screen provides an arena for student and teacher dialogue. Here is where the heart of the course takes place. Students are encouraged to interact with not only the professor but with their fellow students. The bottom of the screen provides a place for discoveries of a technical nature as well as a request for assistance on technical matters. There is even a link to technical support if need be. There is also a link to tutorials if the student has a specific problem such as subject verb agreement. At the top right of the monitor there are links to email. Email is useful in cases where either you or the student or both seek privacy. Then, on the right side of your monitor there are links for grading. One can obtain a summary report on grades as well as a week to week record of performance.

This format is a common one in online teaching and whether one is pursuing a bachelor degree in online psychology, online paralegal programs, an associate's degree online or online business management degree, the organizational structure is fairly consistent. So, this is the basic foundation for a curriculum made up of courses that follow a consistent theme. This is the platform usually used, so the student would do well to learn how to navigate the course. Grading in Online Classes

In online classes, grading tends to be multifaceted. One is given a rating on participation and is based on the criteria given in the rubric which is presented to the student at the beginning of each lesson. The main emphasis is on class participation but the rubric will list what is deemed important in the interaction. The instructor is there to point out to the student how they achieved or did not achieve performing the rubric criteria. Then consider the objective tests. These may be multiple choices, fill in the blank or true/false questions. The culmination of grading is based on the project method of demonstration. The students work toward an agreed upon project which they develop throughout the course. Here they use the cumulative skills they have learned throughout the course. Their participation determines their grade. All of these factors are weighed by a computer program and the system averages the grades for the instructor and the student. The student may peruse his/her grade at any time and note the progress made so far.

If an instructor runs into conflict with a student, it may require a private conference to explore the charges and the interpretation of the charges. Sometimes a dean is present and in extreme cases legal representation may be present. These procedures are in place at the outset of the course and should be made known to the student.

The student also has access to a lounge that is just for the student. Here they can gather to discuss their progress, problems they are having or even their hobbies and outside work. This is for the student and is not a graded section.Granted that students will not necessarily focus on academic topics such as criminal justice online degree program. Nevertheless, students often exchange pictures of their family and of themselves. They often bond with one another and become solid friends, helping one another not only in their present course,but in future courses as well.

As distance education technology become more available to post-secondary academic institutions such as community colleges and state colleges, the greater the chances that a criminal justice online degree program or a bachelor degree online in psychology will be developed and will need an online adjunct instructor to teach the online college courses in them. Community colleges are an especially fertile area for prospective online college professors to mine when seeking online faculty positions because their swelling student population, which always grows rapidly during economic downturns, will generate an online adjunct community college job in almost every academic area. Further, in states such as Texas and California, the community college system is vast as a result of the amount of funding that has been dedicated to building this core area of the post-secondary academic landscape.
