If you are plagued with back pain, you probably spend a lot of time and energy, not to mention money looking for back pain treatment. You may have upper back pain or lower back pain, you may even have shooting back pain. If this describes your back pain, you may have exhausted all known treatment for back pain. Let your doctor or chiropractor know if your pain shoots below your knees or prevents you from completing your daily functions.

If you speak to your doctor you will likely be referred medication, x-rays or MRIs. You may be assigned to physical therapy, which may or may not be successful, but should definitely be thoroughly explored. Throughout all of these efforts you should try to avoid advice that leads you to taking addictive pain medications.

Lower back pain treatments may be as invasive as surgery or as simple as exercise. If the muscles in your legs or stomach are not sufficiently strong you may likely experience severe and frequent back pain. A chiropractor may be able to assess what is causing your lower back pain by looking at how you stand and walk. If your stomach muscles are not strong enough, your back may sway to much which will ultimately stress your back significantly and cause significant lower back pain. If the muscles along the back of your legs are to tight, you will similarly have improper support and your lower back will be in pain. In these instances your lower back pain treatment could be simple and low-cost. Exercise, yoga and progressively rigorous stretching may alleviate a lot of your pain.

Additional treatments for back pain may include acupuncture or massage. These treatments may be expensive and the immediate effects may not be obvious, but reports of success are common. A good acupuncturist can reduce or eliminate pain through regular treatments. It is possible that your health insurance also covers acupuncture.

The most invasive back pain treatment is surgery, for a ruptured disk or other physical displacement. This should only be approached once all other options are exhausted, as there is no guarantee that your pain will improve or not get degenerate. Physical therapy should be explored thoroughly. Through therapeutic massage, traction and exercise a physical therapist can approach back pain in a way that prevents reoccurrences of the pain.

With all of society suffering through generalized or lower back pain, you will be presented with many options by many different people. Some of these people may be qualified to offer advice and some may simply be your 'knowledgeable' friends. However, you know what it is like to live with this constant and exhausting pain.

If you are struggling with finding a back pain treatment that works for your needs, consider joining a support group for those dealing with chronic pain and consider focusing on the management of your pain, in addition to the cure of your pain.

Whatever course of action you take, please speak with your doctor about avoiding addiction to pain medications. Addiction to pain medication is increasing dramatically in our society and has the potential to ruin lives beyond the effects of your back pain.
