Travel Insurance

So you're about to embark on a big trip. You've gathered your supplies and planned your destinations, but did you remember your travel insurance?

Whether your trip is 2 weeks or 6 months long travel insurance can save you a lot of money and hassle should something go wrong on your trip. Most travel insurance covers possible medical or dental bills, flight rescheduling or cancellations and of course lost or stolen luggage.

Lets take a look at some of the different backpacker insurances.

World Nomads Travel Insurance: World Nomads provides coverage for travel in over 150 countries. It is the company recommended by the travel experts of lonely planet and rough guide so we know its tailored towards us cheap  backpacker types. It's perfect for long term travel as you can apply for a claim or extend your coverage online from anywhere in the world. This insurance is also a great choice if you're the adventurous type. They cover tons of adrenaline pumping activities around the world.
Approximate cost for 2 weeks: 69$ (standard package)

Seven Corners Round Trip Travel Insurance: Seven Corners is a great choice if you have a good possibility of trip interruption or want comprehensive medical coverage  (up to 75,000 dollars). They also cover lost coverage or baggage delay. The only downside to this insurance is that it must be purchased while you are still in the U.S. so you can't extend your coverage while traveling or purchase if you've already left.

Approximate cost for 2 weeks: 37$ (standard package)

Travel Guard Travel Insurance: Travel guard is a good choice for those traveling to high risk robbery areas, or those traveling for an extended period. They offer great coverage on lost or stolen baggage as well as high evacuation coverage in case of a natural disaster. They do have lower medical coverage (up to 25,000 dollars) and only a five day limit for travel delay, but this is also the cheapest option, so not a bad choice if you're on a budget.

Approximate cost for 2 weeks: 34$ (basic package)

Although it is unlikely that anything will go wrong on your trip, purchasing a backpacker insurance can give you a peace of mind that will make your travels safer and more enjoyable. By spending a little money now, you can save a lot of money later!
