Lots of gap year students and people who want to see the world on the cheap will go backpacking. Backpacking travel insurance should be your number one priority if you are planning to do this way of traveling. Most people totally forget the insurance part, because most of the travelers are young, fit and healthy and there plans are totally on which parts of the world they are going to see. Plus lots of travelers thinks travel insurance for backpackers is expensive.

If you can not afford to buy backpacking travel insurance, then sorry I'm afraid you should not go backpacking. Insurance is not only going to insure your valuables, but is going to fully cover you medically if you get ill or sick in a foreign country were most of the residents do not speak a word of English. Traveling the world backpacking is truly a once in a lifetime experience and is an adventure of a lifetime, but the bottom line is Travel Insurance is essential, more so for backpackers than almost any other traveler.

Do you know what the medical costs in some foreign countries are. Let me tell you this, it's a small fortune. Without insurance, not only will most hospitals turn you away, but the one's that do will expect you to pay every penny back in what treatment you get. You cost end up in a lifetime of debt very easily without travel insurance.

So the first thing that you will need to do is to start searching the web for backpacking travel insurance, that is going to cover not only your belongings, but medically as well. Don't just jump in and buy the first policy that you see because it looks fantastic value for money. It might be, but by searching and shopping around you may find yourself a cheaper and better deal. Always remember though, to always do a little research on the insurance companies before you purchase your travel insurance for backpackers. It may look good and cheap on paper, but what is the company like if and when you want to make a claim.

You hear horror stories all the time of people getting screwed over by insurance companies. Some companies will try every trick in the book to not pay up. So it will be a good tip to always buy from a reputable and well known insurance company. And number one always tell the truth on every question that is on the insurance form and always double check the answers to see that they are all correct. One mistake can be the different between getting paid out and not getting paid out should you need to make a claim. The insurance companies are in the business of making money, not handing it out. So always tell the truth and never lie on the insurance application form just so that you can save yourself a few dollars. Shop around and do your research and you should be able to find backpacking travel insurance that is going to suit you and your budget.
