Bacterial Vaginosis Treatment: Probiotics Help Antibiotic Effectiveness
Is your bacterial vaginosis (BV) reoccurs few weeks after getting cure from antibiotics? If it does then you are not alone. Over 50% of BV sufferers experienced reoccurrence from antibiotic treatments. What makes it worst is that in each time BV reoccurs the symptoms are getting more severe.
Antibiotics for BV treatment are broad spectrum type which kills bacteria indiscriminately. It makes no distinction whether the bacteria are beneficial or harmful. Once these bacterial get killed in your vagina you will be relieved from bacterial vaginosis symptoms.
Killing the beneficial bacteria are the biggest drawback of using antibiotics because these are the ones controlling the proliferation of bad bacteria. When harmful bacteria begin to proliferate there is a higher tendency that overgrowth can happen again leading to BV reoccurrence as there is nobody home controlling them.
Contrary to how antibiotics work, probiotics treatment introduces beneficial bacteria in your system to reinforce numbers of beneficial bacteria controlling the proliferation of bad bacteria.
However, there is a recent study that says taking probiotic tablets alongside with antibiotic therapy increases effectiveness of treating BV over taking antibiotic alone. But the same study mentioned that probiotic treatment is as effective as taking antibiotics.
While it is good to know that treatment for bacterial vaginosis is getting more effective in probiotics-antibiotics combination, why should one go for the combination if probiotics and other natural remedies are effective to cure BV? Besides, taking antibiotics with probiotics do not spare you from getting the unwanted side effects of antibiotics.
