Bad Credit College Loans
So what happens if you have bad credit and want to attend university? Will they give you the boot due to your low credit score? Will they say that you are unable to use the college’s facilities because of your bad credit? Of course not! Your bad credit should not affect your status with your college at all but what it can do is prevent you from receiving the level of college financing that will allow you to matriculate to school.
More and more college students are graduating college with a significant combination of both federal and private college debt, and it is actually not that uncommon for students attending a private four year university to graduate with over six-figures of college debt. If you are like many of these college students then you know it is going to take a substantial amount of college financing to go to school, and many times the aid you receive via the government and from scholarships just doesn’t cut it in terms of paying for your entire cost of tuition.
If you have bad credit and find yourself in this situation then you are probably wondering about bad credit college loans, and whether you may be able to qualify for such bad credit college financing. The truth is I’m sad to say that if you are in search of bad credit college loans then you are going to have a difficult time finding them because in reality they don’t exist. Yes I did say that, so now you maybe wondering why you have heard about the prevalence of such bad credit college loans and how all sorts of students with bad credit have been taking out these sorts of loans even though they have had bad credit.
Well I can tell you from first-hand experience that if you have bad credit and are in search of additional financing for college then your exact situation is in fact pretty limited. When people talk about bad credit college loans they are most likely talking about private college loans and whether or not there are certain lenders out there that can provide private loans to college students with bad credit. The truth is that these kinds of lenders don’t really exist, and the reality of the situation is that you essentially have two options if you are in search of private loan funding with bad credit.
First you can try to apply yourself with your bad credit score and profile. This will result in a declination by the lender pretty much one hundred percent of the time. Its sad to say but all private college loan funding is based off the students’ credit score and if the student has bad credit then these private lenders are not going to be able to provide you with any kind of private loan financing, it is pretty much that simple. There are all sorts of rumors about lenders providing students with bad credit private loans if they can do this, or if they can do that, and the reality is that if you truly have bad credit then you are not going to get approved, bottom line.
All hope is not lost though because there is another way to get approved for your private student loans even if you have bad credit. If you can come up with a credit-worthy cosigner that is wiling to cosign for your college loan then there is a very good chance that you will still be able to get approved by the majority of private lenders. Most students utilize their parents for this role, but it really can be anyone that has good credit and a job. Once your cosigner cosigns the loan they will of course be held liable for the note in case you aren’t able to make your payments on time so make sure to inform your cosigner of this before you allow them to go ahead and sign on the dotted line. Finding a cosigner is probably your best bet if you are in search of private college loans when you have bad credit, so start looking and start applying.
